The past weekend at Sun Peaks was all about throwing down tricks in a jam format - from the Rockstar Energy Terrain Park to the village streets!
On Saturday we hosted our first ever true urban rail jam which took place outside 5forty. Park enthusiasts ditched the terrain park for the afternoon and headed to the village to try their skills on urban features such as a picnic table, stair railing and a car! $5000 worth of prizes and giveaways from 5forty as well as a $1000 cash prize were up for grabs for the 70 participants who were throwing down at this unique event. The huge crowd had a blast watching and cheering the competitors on whilst listening to a live DJ who was spinning tunes to get the party atmosphere going.
Sunday saw a return to a more traditional park event for the inaugural Duff Invitational Slopestyle. Pro snowboarder Chris Dufficy was in attendance, showcasing his talent to fellow riders and to the spectators who gathered in the terrain park to catch all the action. Participants competed in a 2 hour jam session before the top scorers moved on to the finals round.
After a solid day of quality tricks, awards and prizes were handed out at Bottoms Bar + Grill for a range of different categories. The Duff Invitational was the final event in the No Bail Peace Prize series and points awarded at this event have been added to competitors scores from the Resurgence Rail Jam and The Garden to determine the overall series winner.
There's just one last rail event for the season, the Southside Rail Jam which is taking place on Sunday March 31st in the Black Terrain Park. Don't miss what will undoubtedly be another fantastic competition and an awesome conclusion to this season's terrain park events.

The past few weeks of 2012 not only saw a number of incredible powder days but also some great events both on and off the slopes! The personal highlight for me, other than experiencing my first ever white Christmas was seeing the village come to life for Santa’s Alpine Visit! I also had an amazing New Year’s Eve and there’s no denying that the year definitely ended with a bang at the celebrations on Monday night. It was an epic sendoff to 2012 and those that made it down to the village were not disappointed by the tricks thrown down at the First Flight Big Air Invitational, Dan Oig singing live on stage, the fantastic fireworks and of course the torchlight parade! It must have been a big night for many of you as the slopes were suspiciously quiet on New Year’s morning!
As we enter another year, I thought it would be appropriate to make some ski season specific New Year’s resolutions. On top of just improving my skiing on more difficult terrain I’ve also decided I’d like to pick up a new winter sport – I’ve tried snowboarding before (without success!) and so I’ve decided to give Nordic Skiing a go! I’ve heard so much about it, particularly since being at Sun Peaks and since it’s meant to be great exercise I’ve really got nothing to lose! I’ve booked myself in for the Introduction to Nordic Skiing program and I’ll be sure to let you all know how I get on!
2013 is already looking great; we’ve had some beautiful sunny days and yesterday the 7th Annual Sun Peaks Family Cup got underway! Over the next two weeks there are a number of family activities, events and competitions going on with the signature race taking place on Saturday, January 12th. Make sure you check out the schedule of events for more details.
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all have a fun and fulfilling 2013 with lots of free time to hit the slopes and of course plenty of powder days, first lifts and fresh tracks!

The 3rd Annual Resurgence Rail Jam presented by B&B Board Shop took place on Sunday December 9 in our green terrain park zone, stepped up a bit just for the jam. Dumping snow may have led many spectators to hit the slopes but it certainly didn't deter the record breaking number of participants who were eager to battle it out!
For those of you that missed the action, entrants competed in 30 minute jam sessions with a finals round for the Mens Open categories. Points were awarded based on their rankings at this event, which will be combined with points at our other park events this season to decide the No Bail Peace Prize winners for this winter.
Thanks to everyone for coming out and showing your support to the riders. It's fair to say that the Resurgence Rail Jam was not only an awesome start to the 2012/2013 terrain park series but also a great showcase of local park talent!
See you all on December 31st in the Rockstar Energy Terrain Park for the Granville Island First Flight Big Air Invitationalpart of our famous New Year's Eve Celebrations!
