The holiday season is upon us and Christmas is just around the corner. With so much going on around this time of year; where do you begin? At the start of this month I got to cross “the fastest game on earth” off my list of things to do/see while in Canada. Ice hockey is not a very common sport back in New Zealand, so I was keen to go watch a game at least once while here. We checked out the Kamloops Blazers play the Victoria Royals. It was my first hockey game at a venue and it didn’t disappoint! Watching a team play in their hometown gives a completely different feel; the atmosphere was electric! The Blazers eventually took it out 4–2, scoring the winning points in the 3rd period, making it their sixth consecutive win. It was a lot of fun and a great experience; I highly recommend it for a night out.

Today I checked out the Sun Peaks Festival of Trees. It’s a new event in the Sun Peaks Village this year and provides a nice activity for the whole family. Tickets can be purchased at the Sun Peaks Adventure Centre with the proceeds benefiting the Sun Peaks Education Society. Wander through the picturesque Village and meet new and friendly people as you go between the various businesses and venues that have participated. Admire their styled Christmas tree and then vote on your favourite one. Along the way there is also a scavenger for the kids, once completed they can receive a prize. It’s a bit of fun and all goes towards a great cause.

Later in the week, Santa will be taking a quick break before his round-the-world adventure to come and carve a few turns down the slopes. Take advantage of this chance to make any last minute requests to the big man himself. I’m going to keep it simple and only ask him for a foot of fresh powder, thanks Santa!
