Event Description

The Sun Peaks Kookaburra Cup is back for its fifth year, and better than ever!  Originated as a key event in the Sun Peaks Family Cup 'All Nations Celebrations', this event has been rapidly growing in popularity. Now listed as a BC Sanctioned Cross Country event, the Loppet consists of 4 courses to choose from with 10 age categories. This fun, family-oriented event is open to all ability levels.

New last year was the 30km distance where you can enter as a skater or classic skier, and receive a separate time. New this year is the 15km distance which is a shorter recreational length. By skiing two laps of the 15km course you will complete the 30km loppet. There is a 2km course for beginners, novice skiers, bunnies and rabbits, and a 5km course for rabbits and track attack skiers, and beginner-intermediate skiers looking for a bit more of a challenge.

The 2km, 5km, and 15km courses are free technique events which means you can skate or do classic technique, and timing is combined for both techniques. The 30km course is for either skate or classic skiers with separate timing for both techniques.

Age Categories
5 and under, 6-9, 10-13, 14-17, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ years of age. Male and female in each class.

Courses
2km, 5km, 15km and 30km (two laps of the 15km course).

Note: Due to the number of age classes and courses the race organizers may decide to not award metals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in all categories as a result of the numbers entered in each category.
