Sun Peaks, BC - New this summer, the West Coast Lumberjack Show will amaze Sun Peaks’ guests during Summer Kick-off Weekend (June 28-30). Known internationally for their fearless display of daredevil skills, the show will add to a weekend jam-packed with entertainment and summer fun.

The Lumberjacks will perform three shows a day on both Saturday and Sunday starting at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The show will highlight B.C.’s logging heritage with chainsaw carving competitions, axe throwing and chopping demonstrations, log rolling displays, tree climbing heroics and more.

Sun Peaks’ chefs will be competing for the People’s Choice Award in the 6th Annual Mountain of Beer and Chili Cook-off on Saturday. This sell-out event features house made chilies and beer from a variety of breweries in a pub crawl-style format beginning at 1:00 pm. Participants cast votes for their favourite dish, with local pride and a year’s worth of bragging rights on the line for six Sun Peaks restaurants. Tickets are $30 and are available through Sun Peaks Central Reservations online or by calling 1-800-807-3257.

The Sunburst Chairlift will begin turning for the summer season on Friday, June 28 at 10:00 am, opening access to Sun Peaks’ 35 kms of alpine hiking trails and 35 world class downhill mountain biking trails. Other weekend village activities include kids’ bouncy castle, climbing wall, face painting and fire truck display with other entertainment such as Canadian Ska Reggae band Dope Soda and Djembe Django Drumming, a Kamloops community drum circle.

Kamloops artist Debbie Milnar will be teaching the first of two Sun Peaks Art Zone workshops this summer on June 29-30. The two day workshop, Capturing Light in Acrylics, uses step by step instructions to teach techniques and cover topics relating to learning to paint with acrylics. Located in the Fireside Lodge, the class is $125 for the weekend or $110 for Art Zone members and can include supplies for an additional $20 fee. Email mcknight.sunpeaks@gmail.com to register.

Sunday, June 30 also marks the first day of the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers’ Market. Held every Sunday in the alpine pedestrian village, guests have the opportunity to meet local farmers and artisans while finding handmade treasures and souvenirs. New vendors are welcome to apply by emailing events@sunpeakstourism.com.
