2013 sees significant investment in Sun Peaks Bike Park
June 13, 2013: Canada Cup mountain bike races July 5 to 7, featuring Global FMX motocross show

Sun Peaks, BC - Approximately $65,000 is being infused into the Sun Peaks Bike Park this summer through various improvement projects. Described as one of the best downhill mountain bike parks in Western Canada, riders will notice upgrades in several areas, including the Canada Cup downhill race course.
“This investment solidifies our ongoing commitment to the Bike Park and will have a significant impact on our already amazing trail network,” says Anne Haight, marketing director for Sun Peaks Resort Corporation. “Combined with hosting the Canada Cup in July, 2013 will be one of the greatest bike seasons in our history.”
Smooth Smoothie, Home Run and Insanity One trails are slated to receive work this summer improving trail flow and, in turn, trail integrity and sustainability. After being decommissioned last year due to high amounts of deadfall, signature trails Sugar and Sweet One will be returning later this summer with significant improvements.
Big Rock Ride, Sun Peaks’ first lift-access cross country bike trail which opened last summer to enthusiastic guest feedback, will also be receiving improvements this summer as XC bike riding continues to grow in popularity at the resort.
A new ‘pod’ bike loading system on the Sunburst chairlift will improve loading efficiency and reduce ride times improving summer lift capacity.
With the return of the Canada Cup to the Sun Peaks Bike Park this July, more work will be happening on DH and Arm Pump trails to ensure racers have the best course possible.
Around 300 competitors are anticipated to congregate on Sun Peaks during the Canada Cup, which also serves as the second stop on the BC Cup Series, from July 5 to 7, including several local riders who are favourites to do well.
Adding to the festivities, Saturday, July 6 will feature a complimentary Global FMX Freestyle Motocross Show in Bento’s Day Lodge parking lot from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. Described as Canada’s most exciting freestyle motocross show, it features former X-Games athletes including Kris Foster from nearby Chase, B.C. Global FMX has performed around the world including the Vancouver PNE, Calgary Stampede Grand Stand Show, X-Games, Gravity Games and more.
