Suggested Tweet: Sunny skies and summer fun in forecast for #SunPeaks opening this wknd!

Sun Peaks, BC - Despite a wet June, Mother Nature has teamed up with Sun Peaks to provide a forecast of sunny skies and summer fun for this weekend. The Sunburst chairlift will begin turning Friday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. to signal the start of the lift-accessed mountain biking and alpine hiking season.

“We are confident we will have a great opening weekend,” says Anne Haight, director of sales and marketing for Sun Peaks Resort. “Our dedicated trail crew has been working through the rain and now sunny skies are in the forecast for the rest of this week. Eighty six per cent of our trails are ready to ride this Friday.”
A complete list of open mountain biking trails can be found online:
Alpine hiking will also be open for the season, with trails in good shape. The anticipated alpine blossom season isn’t far behind with the best viewing traditionally expected from mid-July to mid-August.
Sun Peaks is celebrating the start of the summer season all through the weekend with the West Coast Lumberjack Show, the Mountain of Beer and Chili Cook-off, performances from live band Dope Soda and the Djembe Django Drumming circle, plus kids’ entertainment such as a climbing wall, bouncy castle, face painting and fire truck display.
This weekend is also the start of the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers’ Market, running every Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. until September 8 and is also the first of two Art Zone workshops. A complete schedule can be found online:
“We are looking forward to another phenomenal summer,” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “This weekend is the perfect time to celebrate with our guests. There is so much going on, from the new West Coast Lumberjack Show to the start of the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers’ Market; everyone in the family will be entertained.”
Other activities are also available this weekend and throughout the summer, such as golf, canoe and kayak rentals, Voyageur canoe tours, stand-up paddle boarding, trails rides, Nordic pole walking and more. Activities can be booked through the Adventure Centre at 250-578-5542, while tee times for B.C.’s highest golf course can be booked at 250-578-5431.
