Sun Peaks, BC - Some of Canada’s best tribute bands will take the stage during the 4th Annual Retro Concert Weekend at Sun Peaks from August 16 to 18. Well-loved songs from The Tragically Hip, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Ray Charles and other classic artists will have guests dancing and singing in the village streets.

“Retro Concert Weekend has become a signature Sun Peaks summer event,” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “Crowd numbers have grown every year. The music, atmosphere and energy appeal to everyone from young families to older couples and everyone in between.”

To accommodate the expanding crowds, the performance stage has been moved to a new location near the base of the mountain featuring three patios with prime viewing and a grassy area for lawn chairs and blankets.

Performances run from Friday evening to Sunday morning, spanning genres and generations.

“This year guests will hear music from as far back as the 1940’s and from as recently as 1990’s,” says Nicolson. “We have bands that are completely new to Sun Peaks and are also welcoming back some returning favourites.”

A new addition to the weekend, the 11th Annual Jo’s Road Race, will take place on Saturday, August 17. The race is a fun and festive 1 km walk and a 5 km or 10 km run through Sun Peaks’ village and along the golf course. Hundreds of participants will be dressed to impress in their “Get Retro” costumes. They will also be fundraising for a local charity.

"Big Brothers Big Sisters Kamloops is our charity of choice for 'Get Retro' through fundraising and raising awareness," says Jo Berry, of Jo Berry's Run Club. "Our organization’s passion is about movement for kids and youth. All of our events are about giving back which has many currencies – to the individual, to groups and to our partners in the community."
