Sun Peaks, BC - An estimated 4000 people will make their way to Sun Peaks next weekend as the resort community hosts the world’s premier obstacle race company, Spartan Races. About to be a major US television event airing the upcoming World Championship in Vermont this weekend, Spartan Races have become the pinnacle of obstacle course racing.
Sun Peaks’ mountain terrain will be utilized to its full potential during the Spartan Beast race on Saturday, September 28. As the only location in Western Canada for competitors to run the challenging 21 km obstacle race, the event is drawing a large and diverse crowd of athletes from across Canada, the Pacific Northwest, and other parts of the United States.
The weekend also includes the popular 5 km Spartan Sprint race with 15 obstacles on Sunday, September 29. Qualified media are invited to participate in either Saturday's or Sunday’s event or to preview the course on Friday, September 20. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
Competitors are traveling hundreds of miles to tackle a gauntlet of exciting obstacles, including throwing spears, leaping through fire, aerial traverses over water, challenging rope climbs, and barbed wire crawls. Reebok Spartan Races are known for their creative use of terrain, and Sun Peaks will be no exception.
Spartan Race has recently partnered with NBC Sports Group to chronicle the amazing people and stories behind the race series and the World Championship, culminating in a 90-minute TV special that will air on the NBC Sports Network on October 19, 2013. The $250,000 Spartan Race World Championship in central Vermont is the focus of September 21- 22 taping.
