Sun Peaks, BC - The community of Sun Peaks is congratulating local ski racer Elli Terwiel who was officially named to the Canadian Olympic team earlier today, along with 14 other alpine racers chosen to represent Canada at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
“This is a huge accomplishment by Elli and our community couldn’t be more proud of her,” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “We’ve watched her grow up and we’ll all be watching and supporting her as she takes on this next amazing challenge."
Terwiel learned to ski on the slopes of Sun Peaks, competing and earning the respect and support of community members, including Olympic Champion Nancy Greene Raine.
“I am thrilled for her,” says Nancy Greene Raine, director of skiing for Sun Peaks Resort. “She has worked very hard for many years, and this is just the first step. This will be a great experience for her.”
Sun Peaks’ locals and guests are excited to cheer Elli on, and watch her compete alongside the world’s best skiers.
"Sun Peaks could not be represented in Sochi by a better ambassador,” says Al Raine, mayor of Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality. “Good luck, Elli!"
