New Country Fest in Sun Peaks headlined by Aaron Lines
April 17, 2014:

Country Fest joins Sun Peaks’ 2014 Free Summer Concert Series

5th Annual Retro Concert Weekend tribute acts announced

Sun Peaks’ guests will have a chance to kick up their heels at the first ever Country Fest! This new festival is part of the 2014 Free Summer Concert Series, featuring one of Canada’s most played country artists, Aaron Lines. The July 19 concert will be complimented by a weekend full of country inspired events and music with details to be announced in the coming months.

Aaron Lines is one of Canada’s most well- known country artists with five studio albums and many chart topping hits including "Waitin' on the Wonderful" in 2005, and "Lights of My Hometown" in 2006. In 2003 he was named Male Artist of the Year by the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards and in 2008 was nominated for the Juno Award for Country Recording of the Year.

Getting back to the region’s ranching roots was part of the inspiration to include a country weekend in this summer’s diverse events calendar.

“Since Sun Peaks hosted the Kamloops’ Cattle Drive in the 90’s, we have envisioned a country festival,” says Christopher Nicolson, president of Tourism Sun Peaks. “Our community is surrounded by ranches and many of our staff are from local ranching families. Western culture is an important and active part of our heritage and our today.”

“We are excited to attract a new genre of music fans to Sun Peaks,” says Janice Nankivell, events manager for Tourism Sun Peaks. “This will introduce our amazing concert weekends to a new group of people who can enjoy our one-of- a-kind outdoor music venue , plus all the other summer activities here, such as downhill and cross country biking, lift accessed hiking, golf and more.”

Later this summer, it’s a milestone for the local’s favourite Retro Concert Weekend from August 15 to 17, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. This unique festival has continued to evolve, including an improved venue and stage location last summer and new, top quality tribute bands every year.

This year’s Retro Concert Weekend will feature four new tribute bands. Big River is four musicians from the West Coast who present the recordings of Johnny Cash in the style and with the sound of the Man in Black himself. American Rock Legends will perform a John Fogerty and a Bob Seger Tribute, two enduring rock icons. LegZZ is a polished ZZ Top Tribute band with an incredible stage show appealing to audiences of all ages. Ikons, a Kiss Tribute, has been called Canada's Top Tribute act! Two other favourite acts, Live Rust, a Neil Young Tribute and Blaze of Glory, a Bon Jovi Tribute, will be returning for a second and third time to the festival respectively.
