Sun Peaks, BC – The village of Sun Peaks will be alive with free activities and entertainment for the whole family as we officially welcome summer to the mountains. The Summer Kick-off Weekend featuring Jo’s Road Race and the Mountain of Beer takes place July 2-3, 2011.
It all starts on Saturday, July 2 with the 9th annual Jo’s Road Running Race, a fun and festive 5K or 10K loop through the valley with gorgeous views of the golf course, and McGillivray Creek.
After working up a sweat, grab a glass and patio hop through the village for the annual Mountain of Beer and Chili Cook off! Sample signature beer and taste chilli from Sun Peaks’ chefs before putting in your nomination for the people’s choice award! Participants must be 19 years or older. Cost: $30.00 per person plus HST.
New this summer is Jo’s Family Bike Ride on Sunday, July 3. Pack a lunch and ride with your family and Jo out to McGillivray Lake for lunch and entertainment from Uncle Chris the Clown. Picnic lunches are available to purchase from Café Soleil and bike rentals are also available.
There are FREE activities galore for kids of all ages all weekend. Hit up the Cliffside Climbing Wall, watch a 5 Star Dog Agility Demonstration, and listen to live music from Earthbound!
And don’t forget to stop by the Sun Peaks & Region Farmers’ Market set up throughout the village on Sunday from 2:30pm to 6:30pm to pick up fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat for your family’s dinner table!
The Summer Kick-off Celebrations are in addition to the plethora of outdoor adventures available all summer at Sun Peaks Resort! From carriage rides to canoe and kayak tours, to alpine hiking and downhill mountain biking, custom-design your weekend to appeal to every interest in your family!
