Local Shop Owner Launches New Longboarding Event
August 7, 2012: Registration Numbers Strong for new 5Forty Longboard Challenge at Sun Peaks Resort (August 19)

Suggested Tweet: New @5fortydeli Longboard Challenge @SunPeaksResort Aug 19. Cash & Prizes!

Sun Peaks, BC - Over 40 people have already registered for the 5Forty Longboard Challenge taking place on the rolling roadways of Sun Peaks Resort on August 19. Only 75 skaters will be able to compete for $3000 in prizes and another $1500 in cash in this brand new event.
“Sun Peaks’ terrain has a lot of longboarding potential,” says Scotty Jansen, event organizer and 5Forty shop owner. “It’s nothing but hills. I’ve been selling longboards here for about three years so I thought it was time for an event.”
The Challenge will consist of a timed race and a best slide competition. The race will begin 2:00pm at the skier overpass located in the East Village by Parking Lot 6. Racers will compete in heats of four down Valley Drive to the finish on Valley Way outside the 5Forty shop. The top racer will advance to the next heat, increasing their chances of winning the cash prize.  Skaters will also compete in the best slide competition to win prizes provided by Arbor, Ripcurl and Dragon.
The race will provide spectators the chance to watch competitors as they speed down the course and push their limits during the best slide competition. The race is attracting many longboarders from the Lower Mainland and is expected to draw more from B.C.‘s Interior.
Organizers are expecting this new event to compliment the Retro Concert Weekend, also happening at Sun Peaks from August 17 – 19. Racers and spectators are encouraged to enjoy the concert weekend with rooms starting at $89 a night.
Helmets, gloves, shin, knee and elbow pads are mandatory for racers. Those under 18 wishing to compete must have parental permission and signature. Competitors can register for free at 5Forty in the Fireside Lodge or by calling 250-434-2372.
