Sun Peaks, BC - With nearly a meter of snowfall over eight days, Sun Peaks is on track to break its all-time record of 247 cm of new snowfall in December. The record set during the winter season of 2006/2007 could potentially be broken with more snow in the forecast and 13 days left in December.

Skiers and riders at Sun Peaks are enjoying phenomenal snow conditions, with several deep powder days in a row including a 40 cm dump in a 24 hour period on December 15. To date, a deeper snow base at this time has only been recorded twice in the history of the resort.

“Currently we are already at 41 per cent above average for new snow and 28 per cent above average for snow base for the month,” says Jamie Tattersfield, Director of Mountain Operation for Sun Peaks Resort. “It looks like a very good snow year no matter how you slice it!”

The snowfall comes at an opportune time for guests visiting the resort over the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period.

“Having great early season snow conditions benefits everyone, from the guests to business owners, to the resort and staff,” said Christopher Nicolson, President of Tourism Sun Peaks. “It sets a positive tone for the rest of the winter season.”

Sun Peaks is known for its characteristically light, dry powder as a result of its geographic location in Interior British Columbia.
