By Mary Frances Hill, Vancouver Sun
13 Mar 2013, 9:47 AM

As of this week, visitors to Sun Peaks Resort are enjoying the deepest and most impressive snow base in the resort’s history. In the 24 hours between March 11 and 12, Sun Peaks received 26 centimetres of new powder, a very generous dumping that helped the mid-mountain level base reach the 200-cm level.

“Our alpine snow base has been above 200 cm for many weeks but this latest snowfall has put the mid-mountain snow levels above two meters as well, said Jamie Tattersfield, head of Sun Peaks’ Mountain Operations. The record was exceeded three times before: in January, 1974, February 1997 and January 1999.

"It didn't take B.C. residents long to figure out what to do with the long weekend," said Christopher Nicolson, Sun Peaks president of tourism.
The mountain saw 5,000 skiers take to its slopes on Sunday alone. From Friday to Monday, the number of skiers increased by 45 per cent over the same time last year, which rivals numbers the resort sees over Christmas, according to Nicolson. The skiers also stayed. From Friday to Sunday, occupancy numbers jumped 60 per cent from the previous year.
"It's a success story that's also telling for the provincial government's decision to hold the holiday on the second week of February," said Nicolson... read more.

"They were making a movie and said they might bring me out a few times,” Schettini told KTW. “They said they might put me in and they might not."
