The Terrain Park Crew gets some serious props
Hey everyone check out the email we received from one of our guests. Make sure you give props to the Terrain Park Crew for doing such a great job! Dear Sun Peaks Resort, I want to introduce myself to you. I am Damon Pyett. I am the team and marketing manager for Coastal Riders. I am also a cinematographer for Runway Films, and Think Thank productions. I am also working with IS design this year on another movie they are producing. A few weeks ago I brought our team up to Sun Peaks for a team trip. I had never been to Sun Peaks before but had heard good things so we decided to give it a try. I booked a huge house and had everyone meet me up there. When we rode the hill the next day I couldn't believe how good the park was. I would say next to Whistler you guys have hands down got the best park in BC. I was very impressed to see park staff out in the park during the day maintaining all the features. I also witnessed some amazing riding from the local kids. You will definitely be seeing some good riders coming from Sun Peaks in the future. I wanted to take a minute to let you guys know what a good job you are doing, My filming takes me to resorts all over the world and I have the opportunity to see a lot of resorts and terrain. Sun Peaks is doing everything right. I had such a good time when we were there that I decided to book a hotel for four days over this weekend to come and check out the You Look Good Rider’s Cup. I am looking forward to seeing this event and enjoying what sun peaks has to offer. Again I want to let you know what a good job you guys are doing. I was very impressed. Damon Pyett |

Dialing the Terrain Park In
March 13, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – Last week ended up being a busy week for the Terrain Park Crew here at Sun Peaks. We spent two days putting the final touches on the Black Park in preparation for the You Look Good Rider’s Cup, and a very fun spring. The Terrain Park Crew put master cat driver Peter Smith to the test with our vision of a 40 foot channel gap. It came out amazing, and proved to be the coolest feature we have built to date. In addition to the work building the 40 foot channel gap, the two bottom jumps also got a face lift. We added two smaller but lofty take offs to both jumps, and put another three feet of height on the extra large take offs. Saturday proved to be the perfect day to put the new jumps to the test with perfect spring conditions. The bar was raised once again by the local kids in the park, as they didn’t back down from the new larger jumps. There was big tricks being thrown down all day long. See you all at the You Look Good Rider's Cup this Saturday! Toby Ianson Terrain Park Lead Hand |

All Hail to the Cat Drivers

March 1, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – I think it is safe to say that spring is here, with all the sunny weather in the last few weeks. The parks have been in amazing shape thanks to our dedicated grooming team, and hard working volunteers. Last week we were able to rebuild and add some new features to the Black Park. We put the big double kink rail and the flat down box in beside the 30’ down bar and the 24’ flat bar to start our slope style line off with a deadly four pack of rails. I’d have to say that the new multi feature at the bottom of the park proved to be the most popular feature this weekend, as it was getting worked over by the local shredders. Next week we will continue to rebuild and add more features to the Black Park in preparation for the Riders Cup on March 15, 2008. We our the last stop of five across Canada, so you can put money on it that there will be some talent showing up to try and be the series champion, and take home a 2008 Yamaha Phazer snowmobile. Come check out are park, because there is only a month and half left before it’s all over. Toby Ianson Terrain Park Lead Hand |

Phase Two Rebuilds

February 15, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – Well with all the snow we have received over the past few months we figured it was time to beef the parks up a bit. The green park got a complete face lift. A week ago we opened it up, and made the flow of the park quite a bit better. There is a box line, and a rail line with a ten foot jump at the end of it. Last Wednesday it was the Blue Park’s turn. We found enough snow to double the size of the snow decks, so the landings are longer and you can carry your speed between features a lot better. The barrel is back. We set it up as a bonk sitting on top of a four foot snow cube, with about a ten foot gap to the barrel. All the other features in the Blue Park are looking really good for our next park event the Garden presented by Oronge Board Shop this Sunday Feb17, 2008. Next Wednesday we plan to build again, and hopefully build a hip, get the big double kink rail in the snow for the first time this year, and move a few boxes around. Once done this park build, for the next few weeks we will be focused at getting the slope style line dialed in for the Rider’s Cup, March 15, 2008. Spring is on the way so come check out the park! The Terrain Park is Done!
January 13, 2008 – Sun Peaks, BC – Well it took a little longer than last year but I think the wait was worth it. All three parks are now finished, and we are boasting seven jumps ranging from ten feet to sixty five feet, and twenty two jib features. The new black park lane is huge and wide open with a lot of variety. The black park lane has also got flow. Riders and skiers can hit seven rails and four jumps in one run. The blue park lanes consist of a new rail garden area that is great for hiking, and learning new tricks on a variety of boxes. It also has two smaller jumps to build your confidence on before trying the big jumps in the black park lane. Last but not least the new green park on the Platter Area is getting a lot of action these days, due to being open until 7:00pm every day of the week. This park has five small boxes and rails, and one ten foot jump to get you started. See you in the park! Toby Ianson Terrain Park Lead Hand Check out the photos in the Terrain Park gallery. |

The Push Is On

December 13, 2007 – Sun Peaks, BC – Well the snowmaking efforts are all done for this year, and the sand box is looking quite full. We started pushing the lower section of the main park yesterday, and it is already starting to take shape. Look for this section to be completed very soon. The lower park will consist of several jumps ranging from 15 to 50 feet, and an array of jib features including the wall ride. Please remember to stay out of the Terrain Park while the cats are working in the area. Take a look at the Terrain Park taking shape from the Sundance Express Chair Lift, or from the other side of the fence. See you in the park. The New Features Have Arrived!
November 26, 2007 – Sun Peaks, BC – The new boxes and rails arrived at the resort today, and they look good, really good. My man Darrin Schmitz at Snow Park Solutions did some amazing work to get these features to us really fast considering I ordered them just two weeks ago. The resort’s snow making crew is working hard to get every thing else finished, so they can get to the grand finale in the Sundance Terrain Park. The snow guns should be making there way into the park next week. If all goes as planned we should have a few of the new boxes set up in the new green park located on the Village Platter by this weekend. This set up will give all the park rats something to play on while we build the rest of the park. Stay tuned as the park develops. The park is going to be sick. Huge Terrain Park Upgrades for 2007-08
November 9, 2007 – Sun Peaks, BC – It’s been a long summer of planning and waiting for the white stuff to return, but it is all about to come together. There are so many new things happening in the Sun Peaks Terrain Park this season it is hard to know were to start. I guess I will just go down the list starting with what happened first. We have expanded the lower section of the park by removing the trees that separated the black park from the blue park. By doing this we have gained about half a hectare more terrain where you can expect to see a four pack of intermediate boxes. There will also be a new beginner’s park located on the Platter Area. That will boast four jib features and one jump. This park will also be open till 7:00pm, so you can hone your skills after the main mountain has closed for the day. The plan is to fill these new areas with new rails and boxes that we have invested $10,000 in. The new features will be here shortly after the hill opens for the winter season. Here is the list of new features, • 10 foot long 18 inch wide flat boxes • 16 foot long 18 inch wide flat boxes • 20 foot long 15 inch wide flat boxes • 16 foot long 15 inch wide rainbow boxes • 11 foot by 5 foot 1 foot wide flat up boxes • 30 foot down single barrel rail To top it all off the Bluebird Day Fund has come through again and purchased a flat down flat boxes (12x8x8) for everybody to get rad on. I’d like to extend my thanks to the Bluebird Day Fund once again for their continual support for the local snowboard scene here at Sun Peaks. We have also done a complete renovation on the old boxes. All the old puck board has been replaced, with a thicker ½” puck board. The boxes should slide much better, and the sun ripples we’ve had in the past on the boxes shouldn’t happen any more. The resort has also bumped up the park staff this year allowing me to hire twenty-five volunteers. All spots have been filled at this time by avid park riders ranging from the young bloods to the old dawgs. So we should have a good balance with lots of different input to create an even better park product than last season. Stay tuned as the park develops. Toby Ianson Terrain Park Lead Hand |
