Spring is now in the air here in Sun Peaks! While skiers and snowboarders still own the mountainside until April 15, the long days of spring sunshine will soon be uncovering our beloved dirt trails from their snowy hibernation, and we can’t stop daydreaming about the upcoming summer of biking ahead.
Speaking of summer, mark your calendars for opening day of the Sun Peaks Bike Park on Friday, June 22.
We’re stoked for opening, but we’re even more stoked to announce that we’ll be extending the Bike Park season this year with not one, but two bonus weekends during the prime riding conditions of September. After our regular daily operations wrap up on Monday, September 3, we’ll fire up the lift again September 7 to 9 and September 14 to 16, so you can get your fill of the tacky fall dirt that DH dreams are made of.
Our trail crew is eagerly awaiting their first sightings of the trails next month, ready to bust out the tools and get to work. With a winter full of dirt sculpting dreams in their heads the team is raring to go with trail improvements and additions. If you’re keenly awaiting news of what’s new in the park this summer sit tight, we’ll have updates in the weeks and months to come.
We’re also excited to announce the return of the Shred Hard Camp series led by local pro rider, Dylan Sherrard. In particular, we're stoked that the Shred Hard Ladies Weekend camp is returning for the gals! Led by the coaching dream team of Dylan alongside Cheryl Beattie of the Bicycle Café in Kamloops, this two day camp helps rad lady riders build their bike skills, tackle trails with more confidence, and meet like-minded riding friends. Or, in the words of camp coordinator Mr. Sherrard himself:
Our aim at any Shred Hard Summer Camp event is to help riders develop confidence and find flow. I'm really excited to kick-off the summer season with the Shred Hard Ladies Camp, because it's a wonderful opportunity to apply those same objectives while connecting with a whole new audience.
An awesome group of women partook in the camp last year, starting with technique drills in the car park and ending the weekend by shredding one of the gnarliest trails on the mountain, 'Insanity One', to showcase their amazing skills progression.
The Shred Hard Ladies Weekend camp runs over the Canada Day long weekend on June 30 and July 1, which brings the added bonus of a free outdoor concert on Saturday, June 30 with Canadian eclectic rock group Big Sugar.
If you have a friend, sister, daughter, girlfriend, wife, mother, aunt, or heck, even a grandmother, who wants to have some fun and improve her DH skills then send them our way!
See you on the trails!
