9 must-do events at sun peaks this season
Just a few more reasons to get outside and play with us this winter.
People tell us that we’re one of their favourite places. Why? Because Sun Peaks is Canada’s second largest ski area, which means we’ve got an ample amount of terrain to explore, reliable snow that’s famous to BC’s interior mountains, and our community is full of individuals that enjoy a relaxed pace.
Our guests also enjoy events that allow them to have a variety of experiences—a glass of wine under the stars, ringing in the New Year with an amazing firework display or challenging their friends to a race on the slopes. Sun Peaks is home to a full event-roster that is sure to please.
Here are nine events worth checking out this season.
Opening Day of Lift Operations - Apres and Ales, November 18
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as sauntering into a restaurant in ski-boots at the end of the day to celebrate a great time on the slopes. With Après and Ales, Sun Peaks makes that feeling even better by giving out free swag, showing ski movies on the big screen (because we know you think you look just like the pros out on the hill!) and rewarding a hard day of riding with a complimentary beer.
The lifts start turning for winter on Saturday, November 18 at 9:00am and complimentary Granville Island Winter Ale will be on tap from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. All you need to do is flash your day ticket or season pass and our staff will start pouring the beer.
*Must show 2 pieces of ID and be 19 years of age or older.
High Five Day, December 4
Calling everyone that likes to get a ridiculous deal on lift tickets! Join us on High Five Day, when ticket prices are slashed to $5 each + a non-perishable food donation as part of an annual tradition at Sun Peaks—with all funds raised and food donations going directly to the local Kamloops Food Bank.
Feel good about spending your day on the hill for cheap while supporting a great cause!
Holiday Kick-Off Weekend, December 15 to 17
Our village comes alive with holiday spirit during our annual Holiday Kick-Off Weekend. The weekend is jam-packed with family-friendly activities to celebrate the holidays. Not only will the big man in red be gracing us with his presence (this year with Mrs. Claus too!), but we will also have a local artisan market, ice carvers in action, a maple taffy station and so much more.
There is so much family-fun to be had as you stroll through the snow-covered village, so come and experience the magic of a white Christmas at Sun Peaks.
New Year's Eve, December 31
This is the one night per year that spectators can see spectacular fireworks against our mountain backdrop. Our New Year’s celebration is an annual favourite, featuring traditions like the First Flight Big Air Invitational contest in our Rockstar Energy Terrain Park, a kid’s glow stick parade, the yearly evening torchlight descent and a spectacular fireworks display.
Stick around in the evening after a day on the slopes and enjoy this entertaining celebration, all free! After the fireworks, we encourage you to attend one of the many New Year’s Eve parties in the village that will have you celebrating into the early hours.
SUN PEAKS WINTER OKANAGAN Wine Festival, January 12 to 21
The 20th annual Sun Peaks Winter Okanagan Wine Festival returns this January with over 20 events jam-packed into its 10-day span. What started out as a 2-day icewine festival has now grown into one of Canada’s best winter parties and covers the full breadth of the world-famous Okanagan wine region.
From wining and dining at your leisure, to expert speakers and guided tastings, the Winter Okanagan Wine Festival has something for every wine enthusiast.
BC Family Day, February 12
Here in BC, we have a holiday dedicated to being together with those that are most important to you! Naturally, on BC Family Day, we give BC residents 50% off alpine and Nordic day passes, to encourage shredders to spend the day on the slopes with the ones they love. Just show proof of BC residency to get the deal.
Off the slopes, you can also enjoy family-friendly activities throughout the village as part of the festivities.
Bluebird Banked Slalom, March 10 to 11
Race, cheer on (or heckle!) your friends and try out new skis and snowboards during the 7th annual Bluebird Baked Slalom. This local favourite is back for another year, better than ever, and promises to be one of the most entertaining events of the season. The Bluebird Banked Slalom uses the naturally banked terrain of 5 Mile’s ‘Hully Gully’ and is open to both skiers and riders alike.
Coors Light Snowbombing Canada, April 5 to 9
Europe’s largest and most popular snow and music festival made its Canadian debut in Sun Peaks last year. In 2018, the four-day festival will return for a second year to transform our everyday amenities into exciting performance venues and bring thousands of revellers to the mountains. Festival-goers will once again be dancing into the early morning hours to world-renowned artists after a day spent shredding the slopes.
Tod Mountain Days Festival, April 14 to 16
Have the trendiest acid-wash jeans to tuck into your ski boots? How about a bright and bold one-piece ski suit that will have all eyes on you? Retro outerwear is the name of the game at our Tod Mountain Days Festival. This annual event at Sun Peaks spans two days and sends off the ski season with a bang! Challenge your friends to compete in the Slush Cup or take the last official run of the season during our Top to Bottoms Race.
The Tod Mountain Days Festival takes place during the final weekend of winter lift operations and is a blast for the entire family!
