The sun rose today over the final day of the 2017-18 ski season and we want to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to all of our season pass holders, international, Canadian, and Kamloops guests, locals, staff, and volunteers for another incredible winter here in Sun Peaks!
This season was a record breaker from the start, with strong early season snowfall giving us our best opening day ever. November also saw the opening of our newly renovated food and beverage outlets, The Annex and The Sunburst Bar + Eatery, which have kept thousands of guests well fed with new menus this winter.
Fantastic events throughout the season kept the stoke going strong, with highlights including the 20th anniversary of the Sun Peaks Winter Okanagan Wine Festival, celebrations for the 50th anniversary of Nancy Greene’s Olympic gold medal victory, hosting the BC Winter Games, and Coors Light Snowbombing Canada returning for a second year to light up the mountains with musical talent.
As winter continued the snow kept falling and we moved towards a significant milestone. At 11:43am on April 8 we scanned our 400,000th skier of the season, breaking this threshold for the very first time in the history of Sun Peaks Resort! Speaking of snow, Ullr was kind to us again this year and brought numerous powder days right up until the end— including a recent 20 cm dump on April 2.
Despite such an awesome year, next season promises to be even bigger and better! We will be opening a brand new chairlift to go along with significant investments in a host of other improvements and new projects throughout the resort. Our 2018-19 early bird season passes will go on sale in the next few weeks, so stay tuned to our website, the 311 E-Newsletter, and our social media channels for details.
There’s also an exciting summer in store here in the mountains, with Canadian rockers Big Sugar announced to headline our free outdoor concert on Canada Day weekend and the bike/hike season extended with two bonus weekends in September. The Sunburst chairlift opens for hiking and biking on June 22, with the golf course (opening late May), mountain cross carts, and the 5K Foam Fest obstacle race all providing even earlier options for summer fun in Sun Peaks.
For those who visited over closing weekend, we hope you enjoyed your last turns of the season, as well as the annual shenanigans of Tod Mountain Days Spring Festival. For everyone else, we look forward to welcoming you back to Sun Peaks in the summer or seeing you again for those first glorious turns next November!
See you soon,
The Sun Peaks Resort Team
