FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SUN PEAKS, BC (June 21, 2021):

Longest lift-access summer in the Interior kicks off at Sun Peaks Resort

The Sunburst Express chairlift started spinning at 10:00am on June 18, marking the beginning of the longest lift-access bike park and hiking summer in the BC Interior. Sun Peaks also saw the return of Market Day on June 20, which features local farmers, ranchers and artisans every Sunday until October 10. With a favorable snow-melt and meticulous efforts by our Bike Park and on-mountain teams, the Bike Park opened with the best conditions in years -- new trails, fresh berms, updates in the Progression Park, and perfectly sculpted jumps awaited shredders of all ages. With a sell-out crowd on Saturday, Season Pass holders were still quick to get the goods, representing over half of all riders on the mountain each of the three days of the weekend.

This summer bikers and hikers can access the alpine seven days a week until Sept 26th. The Sunburst chairlift operates from 10:00am to 7:00pm, daily until September 6th, then from 10:00am to 5:00pm as the days get shorter. “We’re thrilled to return to extended hours of operation this summer, which, in addition to giving guests longer days on the mountain, also helps Sun Peaks and Kamloops local riders access the Bike Park at the end of the traditional working day. We’re looking forward to keeping the summer lift opening weekend stoke alive, every day all summer long until last chair on September 26,” commented Rob McCloskey, Director of Marketing & Communications for Sun Peaks Resort.

Sun Peaks Resort LLP and the independent businesses continue to work closely together to ensure safety practices are being followed while continuing to offer an outstanding guest experience. Guests can expect to see clear signage throughout the destination and face coverings  are required to be worn in the lift lines and other designated areas. Extended patios into the village walk and new seating areas slopeside have been added to provide additional places to relax and fuel up after a day on the mountain.

“We are excited to welcome visitors from across the province as we move into Step 2 of BC’s Restart Plan. Last summer, we saw more people recreating in the outdoors, whether it was hiking in the wildflowers, mountain biking or playing a round of golf. Given our many outdoor activities and events, fantastic restaurants and great accommodation specials we anticipate a similar trend this year,” says Arlene Schieven, President and CEO of Tourism Sun Peaks. “The first Market Day of the season kicked off on Sunday, complementing the opening of lift-access biking and hiking and fueling the excitement around returning to summer activities”.
