Sun Peaks, BC (January 26, 2018) - Selected as one of Canada’s top 10 ski instructors, Luc Neron, a ski instructor at Sun Peaks Resort, will be travelling to Pamporovo, Bulgaria in March 2019 as a member of the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance (CSIA) Interski Team. The Interski Congress, held every four years, brings together the top instructors from skiing nations around the world for workshops, demonstrations and discussions focused on the betterment of snow sport instruction.

Making the team is no small feat, marking the pinnacle of a ski instructor’s career. Open to all CSIA Level 4 instructors, the process for selection to the Canadian Interski Team spans two years. During this time, Neron joined other Western Canada CSIA Level 4 contenders to attend high performance camps, ski trials and peer-evaluation sessions before being selected among five to represent Western Canada. Neron is only the second Sun Peaks instructor to ever make the team, following in the footsteps of Vincent Lafontaine, Sun Peaks’ Director of Sports School, who was named to the 2003 team.

“This is an incredible achievement for Luc. It is a very difficult road and the highest honour someone in this profession can receive. We’re very excited for Luc and proud to see him represent both Canada and Sun Peaks,” said Vincent Lafontaine.

Before moving to Sun Peaks three years ago, becoming a member of the Canadian Interski Team was a dream just out of reach. “You must be able to instruct in English at Interski,” Neron explained. “And three years ago, this was not something I could do”.

Neron relocated to Sun Peaks from Quebec to teach skiing and learn English, which would open the doors to this opportunity. At 43, Neron confidently describes this honour as a double-achievement, “I have improved my English and increased my confidence. Now, I have the opportunity to represent Sun Peaks and share my knowledge with top instructors from around the world, while learning from them to improve my own abilities”.

“It doesn’t matter what level skier you are, you always want to improve and as an instructor, I am always interested in learning new teaching methods and techniques to help others develop their skills,” Neron expressed. “I want to show people that it is good to push your limits and with this it is possible to reach your dream.”
