FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SUN PEAKS, BC (July 23, 2021):

Following a brief road closure and pause in some operations as a result of the Embleton Mountain wildfire, Sun Peaks will be fully operational on Saturday, July 24. Guests will once again be able to enjoy lift-accessed biking, hiking, and sightseeing, along with a myriad of other activities, restaurants and accommodations. The Golf Course will also resume regular hours.

"We reduced our mountain operations temporarily and shifted our focus to prepare for different scenarios," says Aidan Kelly, CMO of Sun Peaks Resort LLP. "While there was limited imminent danger to Sun Peaks itself, we took a cautious approach. We're now excited to have things up and running again."

The Sunburst chairlift will be open regular hours this weekend along with mini golf and Market Day in the village. Family Weeks start Monday, July 26 and plans are in place for the BC Day August long weekend. The annual Reach The Peak hiking event has been re-scheduled to Saturday, July 31.

As with much of the Province, weather conditions remain challenging, and guests are asked to be extra mindful to minimize potential risks.

"We're pleased to be able to welcome guests back to enjoy the mountains." notes Arlene Schieven, President and CEO of Tourism Sun Peaks. "We owe a debt of gratitude for the incredible support from BC Wildfire Service, Sun Peaks Fire Rescue, firefighters assisting from other jurisdictions, and our community volunteers."
