Exterior of the Sunburst Bar + Eatery

Posted October 3, 2017

This winter is set to be a big one for the Sun Peaks Resort LLP food and beverage operations! Today’s update gives you a sneak peek at the new culinary direction for our on-mountain dining experience, further progress on building construction, and an introduction to the resort’s new Executive Chef.

Construction Update

The renovations of our two major outlets continues on schedule and they will be ready to open their doors for hungry guests in November. If you missed our first construction update from earlier in the summer you can check it out here

With newly renovated facilities comes the opportunity for a complete facelift in all aspects of service delivery and culinary diversity. We are thrilled to introduce you to the all-new Sunburst Bar + Eatery, The Annex Food + Drink, and the revitalized Masa’s Bar + Grill.

The Annex Food + Drink. With the Village Day Lodge on one side and the brand new Sun Peaks Health Centre on the other, Bento’s is being lovingly transformed into The Annex - an integral and natural extension of our village core and a key skier service facility. With additional interior space due to the departure of ski patrol over to the Health Centre, this casual dining restaurant will continue providing a place for locals to mingle with guests from further afield. Swap stories and stoke while grabbing newly inspired breakfast and lunch items, enjoy a quick après bevy from the new bar, or simply gear up for a day on the slopes.

Sunburst Bar + Eatery. The Sunburst mid-mountain lodge will continue to act as the only true on-mountain breakfast spot and an easy mid-day lunch stop, with the addition of a full service bar so that you can enjoy your favourite beverage while you drink in the alpine views. And don’t worry, despite amazing changes coming to our menu the famous cinnamon buns aren’t going anywhere!

Masa’s Bar + Grill. This remains a prime slopeside après spot and, with its giant screen, is the go-to spot for big sporting events like NHL games, the upcoming Winter Olympics, and the NFL playoffs, which will all be shown during the winter. New this season, live bands and DJs will keep the party going long into the night on weekends.

Meet Our Chef

Sun Peaks Resort LLP’s new Executive Chef Hans Stierli joined the team in June and has been working tirelessly to overhaul the menus and revamp some of our favourite on-mountain experiences. Hans honed his craft in the mountains of his native Switzerland, so the marriage of delicious food and winter sports is in his blood. With decades of experience running kitchens around the world, including recent stints at The Westin Resort & Spa in Whistler and The Royal Hawaiian resort in Waikiki, we’re thrilled to welcome his skill and passion to the Sun Peaks team.

Chef Hans

With a focus on market fresh and quality produce, dishes made from scratch, and wholesome comfort foods from around the world, we’re excited to serve up our new offerings to you this winter. Stay tuned for details on the new menus as we get closer to the start of the season!

New and Improved: Fondue and First Tracks

Two of our most beloved winter experiences, the Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent and First Tracks, are also getting a facelift this season, with our revitalized facilities providing inspiration to make them even better.

Alpine Fondue

Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent. Drawing on the European inspiration of our village and the Swiss roots of our Executive Chef, our refreshed fondue experience will focus on a traditional Swiss style fondue. The three loves of European cuisine - rich cheese, mouth watering cuts of meat, and decadent chocolate - will all be well represented, so you'll never leave hungry from this hearty alpine dining experience. After your mountain-top dinner is complete and with a sea of stars blazing overhead in the night sky, a descent by skis or snowboard back to the village on a freshly groomed 5 Mile run awaits. More information about this experience can be found here.

First Tracks

First Tracks. Beating the crowds isn’t much of a concern here in Sun Peaks, but it’s nice to have a mountain of fresh powder and immaculate corduroy all to yourself once in a while. The First Tracks experience gets you out on the mountain while the rest of the resort is still waking up. Starting with complimentary hot chocolate in hand, enjoy a peaceful lift up Tod Mountain before you take advantage of exclusive use of the Crystal Chairlift before other resort guests. The experience also includes a meal voucher to use at either the Sunburst Bar + Eatery or The Annex, for your choice of breakfast or lunch; you decide when you need to refuel! A bonus $10 Happy Hour voucher to Masa’s Bar + Grill is icing on the cake, letting you enjoy an après toast to an awesome day on the slopes. You can find out more about this experience here.

With just 47 days until the lifts start turning and the first flurries of the season already dusting Mt. Tod with snow, we can’t wait to see you and share our collection of brand new culinary experiences during another amazing winter here in Sun Peaks!

See you on the slopes in November.
