It’s been interesting weather this summer, to say the least, and heavy rainfall over the past couple weeks has turned our lush mountain course into more of a temperate rainforest than oasis in the desert.
Despite the creeks running high and a few soft spots in mostly inconsequential areas, course conditions remain very good and lots of golfers have been weathering the storm to enjoy the links between bouts of rain.
Monday Ladies Clinics are more popular than ever this summer, lead by new Course Pro Bill Bilton Jr., with three dates left to improve your game; July 18 is a Sand Play Clinic and July 1 an 18 are both Swing Clinics. Wednesday Ladies Nights are also seeing a great turnout every week. Mens Nights on Tuesdays continue to attract a good turnough, hosting an average of 40 players, and both Mens and Ladies Nights feature 9 holes for only $35 with power cart!
Visit Sun Peaks’ Golf Shop, located in the Sun Peaks Village Day Lodge, to check out hot new golf items to make your round that much better. The front nine holes of the Sun Peaks Golf Course have had a ‘soft opening’ in effect for the past couple of weeks and although access has been walking only, plenty of golfers have been out enjoying the great early season conditions on the course’s sunny side. The back nine, sitting in Mt. Morrisey’s shadow for more of the spring, has come to life and the full course is now open for play with power carts!
Normally this time of year we experience very wet conditions but thanks to the warm spring we're playing in conditions similar to late June, even with the recent rains.” Keith Lyall, Golf Course Superintendent
The greens are firming and tightening up, there are still a few scars here and there but we're well ahead of our usual spring up here in Sun Peaks. The front nine greens are in tremendous shape and the back nine will really start to come around in the next week due to the weather patterns and planned course maintenance schedule.
As usual this time of year snow can be found on the course, but way less than expected. The only spot left in play is the green-side bunker on Hole #13. Even in the alpine, only a few patches of the winter’s epic snowpack remain.

The rough in some areas will be a bit longer than normal, the entire course has been cut over the past week and things will be trimmed a bit closer with the maintenance crew in the coming days. On the whole, conditions are looking great and the operations team has done a fantastic job.
Dandelion explosion! With such an early and warm spring, our colourful friends have come out to visit nice and early. While pretty to look at, we treat and combat these on a regular basis to assist overall course health and will be tackling key areas during the next couple of weeks.
Last fall's vandalism on the Hole #10 green has not yet fully grown in, a temporary green has been cut on the fairway to be used in the meantime as this area regenerates over the next week or two - but all things considered it's coming together nicely.
Overall conditions are excellent and the resort is looking lush and vibrant for the opening of full operations on the golf course. Regular rates are now in effect and we once again have a great roster of course specials and offerings for guests to enjoy throughout the season. New stock has arrived in the golf shop to help everyone get set up for a successful season - pop in to say hello! See you on the links!
