Learn about the differences between Yoga & Pilates and how you can practice both and build on each other’s benefits! The same roots and mind-body connection is required, but a different focus on breath and ways to move your body!
Workshop topics include:
1. What makes Pilates what it is?
It's six principles:
Centering
Concentration
Control
Breath
Flow
Precision
2. Is there a particular Pilates breath? Why? How and when should we use it?
3. Who is Pilates for?
From professional athletes like Tiger Woods to the acrobats from Cirque du Soleil and to the rehab and physiotherapy studios around the world, Pilates can be SAFELY practiced by anyone of any age and fitness level. Take the time to connect to your body (especially within), listen to it, and learn the basic “cueing” language, so that you can safely follow the instructions and exercise modifications suitable for your body.
4. Pilates in a nutshell.
Quality over Quantity
Whole body workout
Adaptable to different needs and/or fitness levels without compromising on the quality of the movement

5. How can Pilates help you enjoy your winter in Sun Peaks better?
“Mainstream” benefits:
Develop postural awareness, the first step to correct your posture faster and by yourself.
Improve core strength and core activation, from simply walking on icy terrain to safely “sending” jumps, you need better balance and coordination.
Counteract the effects of cold weather, standing and gravity through elongation, stretching and fascial release.
“Winter fun” benefits:
Compensate skiing/ snowboarding (as lower-body workouts) with more focus on upper body.
Indulge in openings (chest, hips, lower back).
Increase your range of motion in the main joints, hips and shoulders, and allow them to move differently than while snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
