Shoulder 2 Shoulder Retreat

A safe place for injured veterans and RCMP to heal with their support person. This all-inclusive 4-day event is run by skilled certified volunteer instructors who focus on each individual’s needs. Injured veterans and RCMP, along with their support person will be given this opportunity without any financial strain.

As a former Invictus Team Canada athlete (2018), this is the first program that has accepted me since the Games. I found it difficult to sustain the sports I learned for the Games but Shoulder 2 Shoulder gave me back the first sport I have ever loved. I am deeply grateful to Sun Peaks, all the sponsors, volunteers and Shoulder2Shoulder who made this event possible.

I met wonderful volunteers that are kind, compassionate and have a contagious passion for their favourite winter mountain sports. Tracy, Ron, Susan and Katell were our “guides” for the week. We connected immediately. They truly made this retreat memorable. They are extremely knowledgeable, patient and expert communicators. Their enthusiasm re-ignited my passion for skiing. I also live with PTSD. During the week, I experienced a level of calmness and mindfulness I haven’t experienced in a long time. My level of hyper vigilance was greatly decreased, and I could let my guards down. It was refreshing. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I had and I am indebted to the volunteers that make this program possible.

I was shown patience, respect, encouragement, and empathy. Words fail the gratitude I have and precious memories I will carry of those days together, always. It sparked a willingness to be well and make choices that nourish my own health, so in turn, I can keep being there for my own family. As a spouse, I am on this road with my husband. Shoulder2Shoulder understands what this means. I will forever be thankful for the way I was helped by them, seen, and encouraged. Thank you for this, ever so sincerely.
