Sun Peaks Resort Moves Toward a Smoke-Free Environment

Enjoying the natural mountain environment is a primary motivating factor for our guests when visiting Sun Peaks Resort. We endeavour to provide the finest mountain resort experience while also creating a sense of belonging for those who love the mountains.

For this reason, we implemented a smoke-free initiative for the mountain effective August 1, 2018. This initiative includes a policy that bans smoking of all types including tobacco, vaping, and cannabis (both recreational and prescribed). The plan is to implement a multi-phase approach to smoking throughout the destination of Sun Peaks. This first phase involves the complete ban of smoking, as defined above, on the mountain including but not limited to the following specific areas:

• Lift Lines
• Chairlifts
• Ski Runs
• Nordic Trails
• Bike and Hike Trails
• Sunburst Lodge
• All other on-mountain zones and areas

The purpose of this initiative is to create a welcoming environment for all our guests who are recreating in the mountains. It also has many additional important benefits including summer wildfire prevention, reducing litter, and protecting wildlife. Sun Peaks Resort will begin with awareness based enforcement to ensure all guests are respectful of current policies. We will implement a one-year transition period for staff working at our on mountain facilities. During this time, staff will be provided with information, support, and assistance through smoking cessation programs.
