As a veteran, life after service can feel like climbing an unending mountain. From the moment I arrived, the volunteers’ warmth and dedication were evident. They understood the unique challenges we face as veterans and provided a supportive environment that encouraged growth and connection.
The adaptive ski equipment was remarkable as a stickler, but even more incredible was the sense of empowerment it gave me. For the first time in years, I felt free gliding down the mountain, I reclaimed a part of myself and will be able to enjoy skiing with my family again. - Katrina
My PTSD came from the result of 21 years in the RCMP. At my worst, I had cut myself off from friends and family, rarely left the house due to anxiety, depression and hyper vigilance. I stopped doing or had forgotten what I used to enjoy. Attending the Shoulder2Shoulder program reminded me of the joy and happiness that I had before PTSD. I was amazed at how the snow therapy had such a profound effect on me and the reduction of the PTSD symptoms. I enjoyed meeting new people, being out in public and looked forward to the start of each new day. The greatest joy of the week was to see the smile on my Wife's face as she carved down the mountain. The Shoulder 2 Shoulder program is truly top notch and life changing. - Kevin
This retreat reaffirmed for me that you're never truly alone in your feelings regardless if you attend as a first responder yourself or as a support person. Everyone there had their own journey, and it was reassuring to see how our paths intertwined during the time spent on and off the mountain. If you're looking for a grounding experience that's not only about sports, but also about personal growth and connection, I wholeheartedly recommend the Shoulder2Shoulder wellness retreat to any first responder and their support person. - Kelly
