Dirt Report for Friday, september 19

Notes from the Trail Crew:

It’s already mid-September, and with the lift spinning until the 28th, we’re making every day count out on the trails. Our crew has been hard at work maintaining and improving key sections to keep the riding experience dialed in. We’ve been focusing on buffing areas where we can safely apply water, and sweeping high-traffic corners to clear out loose pebbles and boost grip where it matters most. One of the latest additions is a brand-new wooden feature on Sweet One, just before the entrance from the Burfield Outrun. Lower Melhouse is also nearing completion, and we're aiming to have it ready for riders before the season wraps up. There’s still time to get a few more laps in, so come out and enjoy the trails while you can.

Notes from the Trail Crew:

September has rolled in and while the warm weather is still hanging on here at Sun Peaks, we’ve been working hard to keep the trails running smooth and staying on top of maintenance. We just finished adding a new wooden feature on Sugar that’s steep, gnarly, and built for the riders who love a good challenge. To help with the flow and manage traffic coming off Sweet One, we also added two new berms at the bottom of Bermalade, which should make that section ride a lot better. This past weekend we prepped and dialed in the course for the Sun Peaks Juniors DH Champions Race, and it was awesome seeing the next generation of riders out there. On top of all that, we’re super excited to have four women on the crew this year, and we’re stoked to be part of the growing female presence in mountain biking.

Notes from the Trail Crew:

The rebuild of Lower Canada Line is complete and it is now open. In addition, we’ve been installing eco grids and French drains on Spicy Taco and Sugar. This will help to improve drainage and durability. A new wooden feature, a steep roll, has also been added to Sugar.

We’ve re-routed the bottom of Lower Bermalade to eliminate the bridge crossing at the end of the trail.

Work is ongoing to widen the decking on many of our ladder bridges, creating more space for adaptive bikes and improving overall rider safety.

Notes from the Trail Crew:

We’ve completed work on the old Crankworx dual slalom course, which is now open as a blue flow trail. This new route helps divert traffic away from the lower section of Canada Line, where an excavator is currently working to rebuild key sections of the trail. The goal is to improve overall flow and remove several large rocks, resulting in a smoother ride.

Repairs to the DH race course are ongoing and expected to be finished within the week. Notable updates include the runouts of the Insanity One rock rolls and the corner following the Sticky One rock roll. The Sticky One corner itself has been reshaped, with added support through the exit to allow for a faster, more confident ride out of the turn.

Notes from the Trail Crew:

Over the past week, we’ve been focused on addressing water issues around the mountain and repairing the BC Cup race course following the Sun Peaks Canada Cup. With the Canadian National DH Championships now complete, we’ll also be repairing that course this week to get it back into top shape.

In addition, machine work is underway on the old Crankworx dual slalom course as we begin transforming it into a blue flow trail.

Notes from the Trail Crew:

We have been focusing our efforts on the double black tech trails this week and things are shaping up nicely out there. There has been a lot of wood work happening on Sugar and Sweet One, so keep an eye out for some fresh features. We are also putting in time on the race course to get it dialed and running smooth ahead of the Sun Peaks Canada Cup DH on July 18.

The re-build of Upper Bermalade is progressing well. It is coming soon and we are stoked to get it open!
