The lifts start turning this Saturday morning (November 18) at Canada’s Second Largest Ski Area for the 2017-18 winter season! Speaking of size, we’ll have all three mountains open for your skiing and riding pleasure this weekend – which represents one of the best openings in history at Sun Peaks.

Natural snow has fallen consistently in the past couple of weeks, including 59cm in the past 7 days, and more is promised in the short term forecast. This, combined with the great snowmaking weather through the early part of November, means that an abundance of terrain and run choice will be available to all for opening day.

Every chairlift over all three mountains, with the exception of the Burfield, will open on Saturday morning with regular operating hours in effect. The Morrisey and Village platters will also be running.

In terms of runs and terrain, our on-mountain staff are working around the clock to get as many trails as possible prepared for opening day. The exact run count will depend on tonight's weather, but we'll have approximately 80 runs ready for tomorrow. Check the website or sign up to receive the snow report directly in your inbox tomorrow morning for full information.

On the Nordic side, all trails will be open with the majority groomed, track set, and ready to roll for the weekend.

Please be aware that there are many Sun Peaks Resort team members and a lot of machinery on the mountain working very hard to get everything ready for Saturday’s opening. Until then please be patient and do not venture onto the slopes, as it is not safe to do so until our crews have completed all their work to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on opening day.

Lift tickets will be at regular rates but guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online for significant savings and discounts.

We’re also excited to open the first of two new food and beverage outlets this weekend. The Annex (formerly Bento’s Day Lodge) will be open on Saturday morning and we will be expanding the menu available as the season ramps up. The Sunburst Bar + Eatery at mid-mountain is slated to open for guests in late November, but a new downstairs warming room and the washrooms will be available on opening day.

Be sure to stick around and celebrate your first turns of the year at Masa's Bar + Grill with our Apr
ès and Ales event from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. Following is a movie premiere of Shred Bots and a live DJ playing into the late hours.

See you on Saturday!
