Burfield chairlift

Posted December 10, 2021

All three mountains set to open for Saturday, December 11, as Sundance and Orient come on-line!

On Sundance, favourites like Grannie Greene’s, Homesteader, Rambler, Suncatcher, Sundowner, and more will be available. Check our live Lifts & Trails Status page on Saturday morning for the full details of what will be open. Terrain Park fans will be stoked to know that thanks to our dedicated crews, we will have a selection of green, blue, and even a couple of black features open in the upper section of the park. The lower park remains closed for continued building.

Terrain on Orient will be very limited to start, but we are happy to be able to open this chairlift to provide access to the village core for guests and residents in the East Village. Please note that East Village Ski Way is open for local access only, as conditions on this trail are marginal at this time.

REMINDER: We ask that guests exercise good judgement and refrain from entering closed trails and terrain. You are putting yourself and our teams at risk by doing so, and potential unnecessary pressure on Patrol, our volunteer first aid crew, and medical facilities. Additional trails will be opening in no time and it’s worth the wait – trust us! Passes will be revoked for those caught in closed areas.

And as always, it always pays to purchase online, in advance! We encourage you to secure your tickets prior to arrival. Buy tickets online.

Check the website trail status page Saturday morning for detailed trail status updates.

Happy shredding!

With a nice top up of snow mid-week (10cm!) and the continued dedication of our on-mountain crews, we’re excited to be opening the Morrisey Express chairlift, Morrisey platter and Burfield chairlift on Saturday, November 27. The Learning Zone carpet also opened on Friday and Sports School is ready to start working with the wee ones and adults alike.

On Mt. Morrisey, guests will be able to hit the blue zone of terrain, essentially everything skiers right of and including Mid-Life Crisis. The Laundromat zone, Grand Return, and Back In Time remain closed until we receive additional snow. Early season conditions persist on the lower elevation of all trails, and we remind guests to ski with care and caution.

The Burfield chairlift will also be spinning, providing another access point to the slopes and convenient loading at mid station. All terrain from mid station to base remains closed until further notice, so skiing to base is not available at this time.

Out on the Nordic network, the Nordic Centre officially opens tomorrow for ticket sales (Nordic and alpine) and all of your Nordic needs. Village trail opens as well, now providing access to the trail network from the Covered Bridge. As a reminder, dogs and fat bikes are not permitted on the trails until there is more snow coverage.

As of Saturday, alpine and Nordic day tickets move to regular pricing. It always pays to purchase online, in advance, and we encourage you to secure your tickets prior to arrival. Buy tickets online.

Check the website trail status page Saturday morning for detailed trail status updates.

Enjoy the new trails!

Mother Nature has gifted us with enough fresh snowfall over the past two days to allow for the opening of the Crystal chairlift and upper alpine terrain on Tuesday, November 23! The alpine base currently sits at 95cm, enabling our operations teams to do their fine work in preparing the terrain for safe skiing and snowboarding. This comes on the heels of a fun opening weekend for guests who joined us for first turns of the season on Cahilty and 5 Mile.

Areas of note include:

  • From the top of the Crystal chairlift, all blue terrain and most black terrain will be open.
  • Terrain off Juniper Ridge will be open – ski with caution due to early season conditions. Must ski back to Crystal chairlift as Burfield chairlift is closed.
  • Gil’s – dependent on avalanche control, will be open; delays are possible.
  • All lower elevation trails on Tod Mountain (off Sunburst chairlift) remains closed, with the exception of Cahilty and 5 Mile.

Check the website trail status page Tuesday morning for detailed trail status updates.

At the Crystal chairlift, you’ll find a new loading conveyor at the lift base. The conveyor allows for a smoother and more comfortable loading process. Lift attendants will guide you through the process for the first time and it will become second nature by your next time around. If you’ve never ridden a chairlift loading conveyor, you can check out this video by our supplier to see what it’s all about.

Over on the Nordic trail network, we’re thrilled to let you know that a majority of the trail network will be opening Tuesday as well! The only exceptions are Village Trail and En Garde, which will remain closed for the time being.

Day tickets for alpine and Nordic are 50% off through Friday. Be sure to purchase online, in advance. Click here to purchase.

As a reminder, early season conditions persist on closed terrain. Please obey all terrain closures and on-mountain signage for your safety and for the safety of our teams.

Happy trails!
