A man golfing with valley views

The Sun Peaks Golf Course is now open and we’re looking forward to another amazing golf season here in the mountains! If you’ve yet to tee off at our course, here are five reasons you should add it to your golfing hit list this year:

Your Ball Flies Further

Forget about expensive new clubs, hours on the range, or suffering in the gym. In Sun Peaks we’ve got an all-natural performance enhancer for your drive: altitude. Higher air means thinner air, so up here at BC’s highest elevation golf course your ball will fly further with no extra effort on your part. Sure, the distance gains may only be temporary, but it’s still a blast to let the big clubs rip at 1,200m above sea level.

Cooler Temperatures

In the middle of summer Sun Peaks offers a welcome respite from the heat of the rest of the Thompson Okanagan region. Our village is often up to ten degrees cooler than nearby Kamloops, where mid-summer temperatures regularly hit a scorching 35°C. If sweltering temperatures have you stuck in the clubhouse instead of hitting the links then Sun Peaks is the answer.

A Test for All Types of Golfer

Our course is a tale of two halves. Golfers who are maestros with the irons or possess pinpoint accuracy have the advantage on the shorter, narrower front nine, while power players will relish the longer, wider fairways that curl around the East Village on the back nine. With this variety, our course has something to challenge everyone and is a great equalizer for groups of players with differing strengths.

BC’s Highest Elevation Hole

We’ve talked about the altitude already, but Hole 16, our signature hole, deserves special mention. The elevated tee deck is perched at 1,333m (or 4,353 ft for our American friends), earning it the honour of BC’s highest hole, and provides commanding views of Mt Morrisey, the village, and right down the valley. You can’t beat the feeling of crushing a perfect drive on Hole 16 and watching it sail towards the green far below.

Those Mountain Views

The BC Interior golf scene is known for amazing desert style courses and wide open vistas, making our mountain course somewhat of an anomaly in the area. We’re happy being different though. The unique location means the Sun Peaks Golf Course is surrounded by a stunning backdrop of thick, lush forests, meandering creeks, and plenty of wildlife, nestled right at the base of our three peaks: Tod, Morrisey, and Sundance. You gotta love those mountain views!

Bonus: So Much More Than Golf!

We hear you, there’s no such thing as “too much golf” (psst… have you heard of our Unlimited Golf special?), but some of your friends or family may feel a bit differently. Luckily, Sun Peaks has plenty of activities to keep everyone happy. Lift-access hiking and sightseeing amongst alpine wildflowers, mountain biking, paddling, and spa treatments are just some of the ways you can spend a day in Sun Peaks beyond the golf course, while our summer events calendar is packed with outdoor concerts, farmers’ markets and more.

Our village also has a fantastic variety of accommodation and restaurants to suite every taste, so you can enjoy a true mountain getaway.

See you on the course!
