Warmer days may have you looking longingly at your bike or golf clubs, but it’s not time to pack away your skis and boards just yet! Spring is one of our favourite times of year in the mountains and there’s still plenty of fun to be had this season.
Here’s our top five reasons we can’t get enough of spring in the mountains:
Sunshine, Goggle Tans, and Bluebird Days
Spring brings warmer temperatures and plenty of sunshine to the slopes. Sunny days also mean clear blue skies, so our stunning alpine views are on full display at this time of year. Ditch a few layers, slap on some sunscreen, and get to work on that goggle tan while soaking up plenty of Vitamin D when you hit the mountains in March and April.
Of course, the best part about spring skiing is still the skiing! With longer days in spring you can enjoy even more of it, with the Sundance, Morrisey, and Orient chairlifts open extended hours from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Amongst those in know spring skiing conditions rank second only to revered powder days when it comes to the fun factor, so join us to cruise wide open groomers, hot dog through soft moguls, and charge corn snow to your heart’s content. Speaking of powder, just because it’s March doesn’t mean the storms have disappeared, so there’s always the chance of a sneaky late season pow day to reward your efforts to the end.
Spring is also prime time for our Rockstar Energy Terrain Park. The features are dialed in and the landings are forgiving if you don’t quite get things right. Plus, events like The Garden Rail Jam help to keep the stoke high.
Cradling a glass of wine by the fire while snow falls outside has its charms, but après really kicks up a notch when the patios come into play in spring. Sun drenched, ski-in, ski-out patios at The Sunburst Bar + Eatery, Masa’s Bar + Grill, Bottoms Bar and Grill, Morrisey’s Public House, and others beckon for lunch or a post ski beverage, often accompanied by plenty of tunes to keep the party going long after the lifts are closed. Pull up a chair, loosen those boots, and toast to another great spring on the slopes!
Events and Live Music
Our spring event calendar is chock full of live music, fun events, and long running local favourite celebrations. Over 600 kids from across Canada join us for 17th Annual Hub International Nancy Greene Festival, Oronge Boardshop will have the terrain park bumping for The Garden Rail Jam, and Snowbombing Canada music festival touches down for the biggest party of the year. It’s a bit early to be thinking about the very end of the season just yet, but when that bittersweet day comes our annual Tod Mountain Days Spring Festival will send things off with a bang to help offset those end of winter blues.
Huge Savings on Gear!
While right now you’re probably thinking more about your summer plans than what winter gear you need to upgrade, spring is one of the best times to score a deal on equipment, clothing, and more, at shops throughout the village. Starting mid-March and running through closing day on April 14th, the local ski, board, and apparel stores are running sales of up to 50% off on a majority of their winter stock. Take a stroll through our main street to discover plenty of bargains and stock up for next season.
So, what are you waiting for? With great deals on lift tickets when you buy ahead of time on our online store (save up to 40%!) and spring accommodation options starting from just $169 per night, come join us for spring skiing in Sun Peaks!
