The Peak Of The Season: Hearts Grow Fonder

Words and photos by local rider Dylan Sherrard.

It wasn’t really all that long ago, was it? We were flying in the woods, two wheels, one love, with the warmth of the sun and a blue sky above. We bathed in the light with a laughable dirt-tan that began at the glove, lap after lap, never a lack thereof. And even on days when our work wasn’t done the trails always won whenever the push came to shove.

Now please don’t get me wrong, winter is wonderful in all its own right. Little compares with a long sweet carve and the spray of the light - the most dramatic of sights as the days fade to night. Surfing on snow feels almost like flying, plus the sun is always shining, and this in itself warrants no whining. Yet regardless the depth of the pow, there’s something I’ve felt I’ve been missing deeply until now.

I missed the wind in my hair, the alpine aroma that hangs in the air. Feeling hyper aware in the summer night flare. I missed the trailside attractions, like wildflowers blooming and tangling in mother nature's hair and our old pal, a local celebrity named Eugene the bear.

I missed the long sweet shreds when we rip and we tear. And above all charms, I will always swear, nothing compares to the friends who we make here and the rides that we share.

But while the list of things we miss may be long, the wait itself will not be much longer.
And we promise you this, absence lets the heart grow fonder. Soon we will lean back into these peaks of the season. We’ll rack up all the laps we can squeeze in and we’ll rally between them without rhyme or reason.

There’s a lot to look forward to when we reunite with our long lost love. Midsummer fairy tales and the charm of new trails, all welcome additions meant to fit like a glove.

Mountain biking lives in the depths of these hills that we roam, and our love for the ride truly makes it a home.

Soon enough the chairlift will spin, on June 21st summer at Sun Peaks is set to begin.
We’ll see you for laps with the sun on our skin, and we’ll see you on the patios while we celebrate the win. We’ll cheers from beer to beer with a grin from ear to ear, telling stories of past glories and dreaming of making more of these memories.

We’ll see you at Sun Peaks before you know it.
