Keeping Sun Peaks Safe, Accessible and Enjoyable for Everyone

At Sun Peaks Resort, we're committed to creating a safe, welcoming and accessible environment for residents, guests and visitors of all ages and abilities.

As our community continues to grow and summer visitation increases, the Village Stroll has become one of the busiest shared spaces in the resort. It serves as a central gathering place for dining, shopping, events, patios, family activities and pedestrian movement throughout the village core.

To help ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment, Sun Peaks Resort LLP is implementing a Bike Dismount Plan within the Village Stroll and surrounding pedestrian-priority areas.

Why Are Bikes Required to Be Walked?

The Village Stroll experiences high pedestrian traffic throughout the summer season, including:

  • Families with young children
  • Seniors
  • Individuals using mobility aids
  • Guests with strollers
  • Visitors attending events and outdoor programming
  • Patio and storefront activity

When bicycles travel through crowded pedestrian areas, even at low speeds, the risk of collisions and injuries increases significantly. Walking bikes through the Village Stroll helps reduce conflicts, improves visibility and creates a more predictable environment for everyone.

Supporting Accessibility for All

Sun Peaks is committed to maintaining an accessible village environment.

Walking bikes in designated pedestrian-priority areas helps ensure safe movement for individuals with disabilities, people using mobility aids, people with strollers and others with accessibility needs. By reducing speed and unexpected movements in crowded areas, we can better support barrier-free access throughout the village core.

What Areas Are Included?

Bike dismount zones include:

  • The Village Stroll / Village Walk corridor
  • Designated pedestrian-priority areas within the village core
  • Village Day Lodge lift access areas and associated pedestrian zones
  • Other locations identified through signage

Please watch for posted signs and follow all instructions when entering these areas.

How Will This Be Implemented?

To support awareness and compliance, Sun Peaks Resort LLP is installing:

  • Bike dismount signs at Village Stroll entry points
  • Reminder signage throughout pedestrian areas
  • Signage at Village Day Lodge lift access areas
  • Additional temporary signage during events and peak visitation periods

Our goal is to educate first and encourage voluntary compliance through clear communication and wayfinding.

Aligning with Industry Best Practices

Many destination mountain resorts have established pedestrian-priority zones where bicycles must be walked in village cores and other high-density public spaces.

The Sun Peaks Bike Dismount Plan aligns with these industry best practices while helping protect the unique guest experience that makes our village special.

Micromobility Devices

Sun Peaks Resort LLP also reminds guests that electric motorbikes, electric dirt bikes, electric scooters, mini-motorcycles and similar motorized micromobility devices are not permitted on resort property, including the Village Stroll, Valley Trail Network, pedestrian corridors, plazas and resort-managed public spaces unless expressly authorized by Sun Peaks Resort LLP.

This approach aligns with broader community safety messaging and supports a safe environment for residents, students and visitors.

Looking Ahead

Sun Peaks Resort LLP is working collaboratively with Tourism Sun Peaks and municipal partners to ensure the Village Stroll remains a vibrant, safe and accessible place for everyone.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping create a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
