Sun Peaks Virtual Loppet

Join us between Saturday, February 26 and Sunday, March 13 for the Sun Peaks Virtual Loppet. This is a fun, family-oriented cross country timed course open to all ability levels. Race distance is 15km. 

The Loppet will be a timed event which will require the skier to have the STRAVA app (free version) installed on your smart phone and with you while skiing. The course will record the time of all skiers. You may ski the course more than once and your best time will be recorded. Those who wish to ski the course without a time may do so as many times as you wish. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course starts and finishes on the trail across from the Nordic Centre. The course, including the start/finish will be marked with “I5” circle markers and blue arrows.

COURSE MAP

Detailed course directions: Ski up McGillivray Lake trail through P5, follow Cottontail back towards Umbrella Cafe, turn left across bridge towards Morrisey Lift, turn right onto Village Trail. Ski 0.5 km to turn around sign and return on Village Trail to Morrisey Lift base. Ski up hill to Vista. Ski along Vista turning left on Cottontail. Ski along Cottontail turning right onto McGillivray Lake Trail. Ski McGillivray Lake trail (approx. 4km) to junction with Blue Grouse, turn left. Ski up Blue Grouse, right onto Nuthatch, right onto Raven Ramble and right onto Siggi’s Way. Ski across McGillivray Lake trail, down Otter loop, left onto Great Grey. Ski all of Great Grey to bottom, go straight onto Cottontail. Ski Cottontail back towards Umbrella Café, right onto alpine ski way, right around corner at Umbrella Café and finish across from Nordic Centre.

START TIMES AND LOCATION

The Loppet course starts at 8:00am on Saturday, February 26 and ends Sunday, March 13 2:00pm. Start location: P5 (parking area) above the Nordic Centre.

Registration

There is no cost to participating in the Sun Peaks Virtual Loppet! To keep track of the skiers, provide updates, awards, and random draw prizes, the Nordic Centre will require the following participant information:

Ticket/Pass Required

A valid RFID ticket or season pass is required to ski on the trails.

Results

Loppet updates will be provided during the two-week window with numbers of skiers and current times.

A Virtual Loppet Wrap-Up will be held at the Nordic Centre on Sunday, March 13 at 3:00pm where times and winners will be announced. Don't miss out on awards and prizes!
