Thank You For a Fantastic Winter! - Season 2018/19 Photo Recap

Posted April 15, 2019

All good things must come to an end and it's hard to believe that the 2018-19 ski season is now behind us. Our closing day celebrations are always bittersweet; we hope everyone enjoyed their final turns yesterday on April 14.

As we reflect on the winter that was, we'd like to extend a big thank you to all of our season pass holders, Kamloops, international, and Canadian guests, locals, staff, and volunteers for another fantastic season here at Canada's second largest ski area!

This winter started off with big smiles all around. On November 17 we were the first ski resort in BC to open for winter 2018-19. Plenty of guests and locals joined in the fun, enjoying their first turns of the year (plus free cinnamon buns!), with Mother Nature happy to play along by providing a beautiful sunny inversion up top and stashes of fresh snow to discover.

Not bad for opening day!

The excitement of being the first resort to open was matched by our excitement for a brand new addition this winter: the Orient chairlift. A helicopter took to the skies in front of a cheering crowd to install the towers on December 1 and 2, before the chairlift opened to its first guests on Christmas Eve.

As always, there was a stacked calendar of events throughout the season to keep the stoke going strong. Highlights included a brand new wine festival in December (Savour the Sun), our always popular New Year's Eve festivities, hosting our first ever Peak Pride, the biggest Sun Peaks Nordic Festival yet, and the return of Snowbombing Canada.

From the new year onward it turned into a bit of a challenging winter weather-wise, especially towards the end, but there was still plenty of great skiing and snowboarding to be had. Of course, we also had some nice helpings of our famous light, dry powder days for everyone to enjoy.

Relive the fun with some of our favourite photos from this past winter:

Are you already dreaming about next winter? Our 2019-20 Best Buy season passes will go on sale early May, so stay tuned to our website, our E-Newsletter, and our social media channels for details to be released.

There’s also a huge summer in store here in the mountains! New trails plus an extended chairlift season are on the way for the Sun Peaks Bike Park, Serena Ryder is performing a free outdoor concert, and golf season is just around the corner. The Sunburst chairlift opens for hiking and biking on Friday, June 21, with the golf course (opening late May), mountain cross carts, and the 5K Foam Fest obstacle race all providing even earlier options for summer fun in Sun Peaks.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us this season. We look forward to welcoming you back in the warmer months or seeing you again for those amazing first turns next November!
