Supporting the Sun Peaks Community This Fall

Giving Tuesd-eh celebrates giving close to home, with a Canadian “eh” and a focus on the local organizations supporting our Sun Peaks community. It’s an opportunity to recognize the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to making Sun Peaks a vibrant, caring place to live and visit. As we gather for Thanksgiving this October, Giving Tuesd-eh invites us to turn gratitude into generosity by supporting the local non-profits that give so much to our community.

Sun Peaks: A Community and A destination

Sun Peaks is known around the world for skiing and riding in winter, and mountain biking, golfing and hiking in summer. Behind these experiences is a thriving mountain community of creative locals, growing families and passionate business owners who care deeply about this town and its people.

Our Giving Tuesd-eh spotlight series introduces the local non-profits helping this community thrive. Discover the people behind their work, how donations make a difference and the projects you can support through Giving Tuesd-eh 2026.

In this first instalment, meet ArtZone Sun Peaks, Sun Peaks Education Society and Sun Peaks Historical Society. From making the arts more accessible to connecting students with local experts and restoring a historic mountain cabin, each has a different story to share and a meaningful project to support.

Sun Peaks Historical Society

Preserving the Tod Mountain Herder Cabin

Long before Sun Peaks became the destination we know today, ranching communities helped shape the area. The Tod Mountain Herder Cabin offers a connection to that history.

Built in 1949 by the former Louis Creek Cattle Association, the cabin is Sun Peaks’ oldest historical building. Sun Peaks Historical Society is raising funds to restore it, preserving a place that honours the ranching community’s contribution to the area’s development and its ongoing relationship with Sun Peaks.

The society saved its Giving Tuesd-eh 2025 funds for the restoration project, which remains its fundraising priority for 2026. The project aims to make the cabin and surrounding site accessible to residents and visitors through the hiking and biking trail network. Historical information will be shared through the society’s website, printed materials and onsite signage.

Alongside the cabin project, the society is developing an online digital archive to make historical information, materials and photographs available to the public. Together, these initiatives will help more people discover the stories behind the place they call home or love to visit.

How you can help: A donation will support the Tod Mountain Herder Cabin restoration and help preserve this part of Sun Peaks’ history for future generations.

ArtZone Sun Peaks

Making room for creativity and connection

Picking up a paintbrush for the first time, discovering a local artist or learning a new skill can all be ways to connect with the community. ArtZone Sun Peaks creates opportunities for children, youth, adults, residents and visitors to experience arts and culture in a welcoming environment.

Its work includes workshops and classes, exhibitions, children’s programming and community arts events, alongside opportunities for local artists to exhibit and share their work. Whether you want to create something yourself or appreciate the creativity of others, ArtZone aims to make participation accessible.

Support from Giving Tuesd-eh 2025 helped ArtZone deliver programming throughout the year, covering costs such as instructors, artists and supplies. It also supported opportunities for local artists and activities that brought residents and visitors together through the arts.

This year, ArtZone hopes to build on that momentum with new workshops, a broader range of creative experiences and more opportunities for local artists. Donations will help bring skilled artists and instructors to Sun Peaks and turn new programming ideas into experiences the community can enjoy.

How you can help: A donation or membership helps ArtZone keep arts and culture an accessible part of life in Sun Peaks. Check out the Sun Peaks events calendar to participate in upcoming ArtZone events and discover local artists in galleries around the village.

Sun Peaks Education Society

Taking learning beyond the classroom

In Sun Peaks, the mountain community offers plenty of opportunities to learn. Sun Peaks Education Society (SPES) is working to connect Sun Peaks Mountain Academy (SPMA) students with the people, workplaces and experiences around them.

Participating in Giving Tuesd-eh for the first time in 2026, SPES is raising funds for extracurricular and experiential learning connected to tourism, outdoor education and mountain life. Its program direction includes alpine fitness, avalanche safety, first aid, culinary experiences, art, trades exposure and school trips.

Funding will help students learn from local professionals, visit workplaces, and access specialized programs that may otherwise be beyond the school’s reach. These experiences can help students discover interests, build practical skills and confidence, and explore future education and career paths.

The goal also reaches beyond individual experiences. By strengthening relationships with local businesses and community organizations, SPES hopes to give students a greater sense of belonging and a clearer understanding of how they can contribute to the community around them.

How you can help: Your donation can help turn the mountain community into an extension of the classroom, creating more opportunities for students to learn through firsthand experience.
