Supporting Places to Play and Connect

An afternoon at the playground, a friendly game of ball hockey or another try at a new skateboarding skill: sometimes, the best memories begin with a place to play. These spaces give children and youth room to explore, families a reason to gather and neighbours a chance to get to know one another.

Behind two local projects are community members working to make those experiences possible. From a permanent skatepark in Sun Peaks to a new community park in neighbouring Whitecroft, their plans share a purpose: creating welcoming places where people can be active, build confidence and enjoy time together. This Giving Tuesd-eh, discover how your support can help bring these spaces to life.

What Is Giving Tuesd-eh in Sun Peaks?

Giving Tuesd-eh celebrates giving close to home, with a Canadian “eh” and a focus on the organizations supporting our Sun Peaks community. This Thanksgiving, it’s an opportunity to turn gratitude for the place we love into support for the people helping shape its future.

Helping Community Projects Take Shape

In the third instalment of our Giving Tuesd-eh spotlight series, meet Sun Peaks Skatepark Foundation and the Community Association of Whitecroft.

Both organizations are raising funds for places to play, with benefits that reach beyond recreation. Their projects will create opportunities for young people to connect, families to spend time together, and community bonds to grow right here in the mountains. Here’s what they’re working towards and how you can help through Giving Tuesd-eh 2026.

Sun Peaks Skatepark Foundation

Building a Place to Play and Progress

A place to practise a new trick, meet friends and keep trying can mean a lot to a young person. Sun Peaks Skatepark Foundation is working to create a permanent concrete skatepark where local youth, families and visitors can enjoy recreation outside of structured sports.

After a 14-year community effort, the project is moving closer to construction. The geotechnical survey is complete, the design has been completed with construction partner Radius, and local businesses and community members have pledged materials and labour. Securing the remaining construction funding is now the foundation’s focus.

Giving Tuesd-eh 2025 brought the project another step forward. Community donations of $12,520, combined with a $1,250.66 contribution from Tourism Sun Peaks, added $13,770.66 to the construction fund. These funds are reserved for the skatepark’s physical construction and development.

This year, the foundation’s Giving Tuesd-eh goal is $10,000. Every donation will help close the remaining funding gap and bring the community closer to breaking ground.

The planned park would also offer a place for snowboarders, bikers and skiers to cross-train, alongside opportunities for future youth camps and lessons. For residents and visitors alike, it would add another way to enjoy Sun Peaks beyond the slopes and trails.

How you can help: Your online donation will support the skatepark’s construction fund and help create a lasting place for young people to play, connect and build confidence.

Community Association of Whitecroft

Bringing Nanci Wilson Park to Life

For years, the Community Association of Whitecroft has envisioned a park where families from Whitecroft, Sun Peaks, and Heffley can gather and play. A place for community events, everyday recreation and the memories made along the way.

A generous donation on behalf of Nanci Wilson’s family has provided a location for that vision. Named in her honour, Nanci Wilson Park will share the site with a new community well and filtration system, supporting the work of the Community Association of Whitecroft and the Whitecroft Water Society.

Plans for the fenced park include a playground, a covered concrete pad for community events, a sports pad for basketball and ball hockey, and a pump track. Together, these features would give neighbouring families more ways to be active and spend time together close to home.

The park’s three-phase construction plan has an estimated total cost of $400,000. Participating in Giving Tuesd-eh for the first time in 2026, the association is raising funds for supplies and playground equipment needed for the next phase of development.

For the association, the project is about giving back to future generations. Community support today can help create a space that children and families will enjoy for years to come.

How you can help: Your online donation will help fund supplies and playground equipment, bringing Nanci Wilson Park closer to becoming a place for the community to gather and play.

Give Back to the Places We Play

A new trick mastered, an afternoon of playground adventures, neighbours coming together for a community event: places to play can become places where we belong.

This Giving Tuesd-eh, consider helping one of these projects take its next step. Every contribution brings these organizations closer to creating spaces that welcome future generations of families, friends and visitors.
