Learn, progress and ride with confidence all season long. Our 10-lesson Locals Program helps skiers and snowboarders of all ages and skill levels build technique in a fun, supportive group environment. The program includes one two-hour lesson per week, giving participants the consistency and time needed to develop their abilities throughout the season.
With the same instructor and familiar peers each week, students benefit from consistent coaching, stronger connections and personalized feedback that supports long-term improvement. Weekly progress tracking helps identify strengths, celebrate milestones and focus on continued development on the slopes.
Whether learning the fundamentals or refining advanced techniques, the Locals Program is one of the best ways to improve your skiing or snowboarding at Sun Peaks Resort.

Some elements of our Local Lessons have been refreshed for this winter, notably the registration date, lesson times, some age groups, and select lesson lengths and instructor-to-student ratios. These changes have been made to streamline registration and create a stronger first ski experience for children, supporting long-term skill development.
Registration Moves to September 23, 2026
Local Lessons registration will open at 9:00am PT on Wednesday, September 23, rather than in August.
Moving registration to a later date better aligns with the end of a busy summer for local families and our Sports School team. Going forward, Local Lessons registration will open annually in late September.
Mark your calendar and review the program options before registration day so you’re ready to go.
Lesson Times Move 30 Minutes Later
Local Lessons will start 30 minutes later than in previous years to reflect BC’s move to year-round Pacific Daylight Time.
If you’ve participated in Local Lessons before, your usual lesson time will be 30 minutes later this season. Be sure to review the updated schedule carefully before selecting a program during registration.
Updated Kids Age Groups and Lesson Structures
You'll notice adjustments to select age groups, lesson lengths and instructor-to-student ratios. We've taken this approach to better match each child's age and stage of development and provide more opportunities for individualized instructor support. This will help young participants build confidence and a strong foundation.
Previously, skiers aged 4 and 5 and snowboarders aged 5 and 6 participated in the same lesson structure. For this winter, these ages have been separated. For details, check out Local Kids Program Lessons.
