COVID-19 Safety Practices 

Sun Peaks Resort is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our guests, staff and local residents. In an effort to provide a safe recreational experience we have implemented new measures and protocols throughout the Resort.

We encourage all guests to respect any current travel restrictions or other public health authority guidelines.

For the health and safety of fellow guests and staff, please do not visit:

  1. If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19. For symptom details visit BC Centre for Disease Control.
  2. If you have travelled outside of Canada and returned within the last 14 days. You are not be permitted to visit until you have self-isolated for 14 days. 
  3. If you live in a household with someone who has COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone sick/infected with COVID-19.

While visiting Sun Peaks Resort and our facilities please:

  • Follow physical distancing guidelines of 2 metres (6 feet)
  • Follow limited occupancy signage posted on storefronts
  • Follow direction from staff (if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask)
  • Use tap payment when possible

If you are unable to follow the guidelines and protocols, you will be asked to leave the premises.

There will be a limited amount of tickets available for sale each day to manage guest numbers, overall guest experience and ensure safety protocols are followed. 

Tickets should be purchased online in advance to guarantee access. Window ticket sales may not be available for the majority of the season.

General Guidelines and Arrival Information

Guests will notice informative and consistent signage across the Village that will provide instruction for physical distancing, venue or property specific instructions and capacities, identify locations that require face coverings or masks, and provide guidance for any lines or queues.

Enhanced cleaning and disinfection will take place across the village, specifically in high touch-point locations. Hand sanitizing stations will be provided throughout the resort.

A face covering will be required in lift lines, while riding chairlifts, and any time you're not seated while visiting outdoor dining facilities. When indoors at Sun Peaks Resort facilities, guests are asked to wear a double-layered face mask that covers your nose and mouth. For specific information regarding face masks in mountain dining locations please see our Mountain Dining section below. 

Parking

Parking will be available at the following locations:

  1. Burfield P1 (limited)
  2. The Annex P2
  3. Village Day Lodge P3 (limited)
  4. Mt. Morrisey P5

Traffic flow in the Village Day Lodge and The Annex parking lots may be modified to accommodate increased vehicle traffic. Upon arrival to Sun Peaks, follow the direction of attendants or signage to point you from Sun Peaks Road to available parking.

Equipment and Bag Storage

To maintain a safe experience for guests and staff, there is no indoor storage for belongings available this winter. Please leave all personal belongings in your vehicle, and ensure your vehicle is locked and items are secure. Parking lots are being monitored by additional security.

Tickets and Season Passes

All Alpine Lift Tickets, Nordic Day Tickets, and Season Passes must be purchased online, in advance. Window ticket sales may not be available for the majority of the season, so save time and money by pre-purchasing your tickets on our online store. Daily capacity limitations will be in effect and managed through our online store, and tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. We encourage all guests to purchase lift tickets well in advance, as capacity limits could be reached on high-demand days. Day tickets will be available for pre-purchase in intervals of up to three (3) days maximum. To purchase additional consecutive days, you must add an additional ticket purchase to your cart, and select the correct start date for that ticket purchase.

Season Pass holders can enjoy unlimited access to the mountain. At this time, Sun Peaks Resort does not plan to implement a reservation system for pass holders for the 2020-21 winter season.

Winter 2020-21 Cancellation and Refund Policy for Day Tickets

As a standard policy, Sun Peaks Resort lift tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable. However, there are modifications to this policy due to the impacts and circumstances surrounding COVID-19. We want to ensure all guests are able to purchase with confidence.

The following policies and procedures will be in place for Alpine and Nordic Day Ticket cancellations/refunds for the winter 2020-21 season:

  1. If the ski area is fully closed for certain dates, guests with day tickets will receive a full refund.
  2. If the ski area is open, but a documented and verifiable government travel restriction and/or quarantine requirement prevents a guest from being able to travel to Sun Peaks, guests with day tickets will receive a full refund.
  3. If the ski area is open, but an individual cannot travel due to COVID-19 related illness, we will evaluate these circumstances on a case by case basis.
  4. If the ski area is open, but the guest is unable to travel for any other reason, our standard policy applies (tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable).

Winter 2020-21 season pass Credit rebate program for covid-19 closure

In the event that Sun Peaks Resort is required to close due to implications from COVID-19, we have modified our Season Pass credit rebate program. Further details on this program can be found here.

Ticket Pick Up

Redeem your ticket with your order confirmation email. You can use your mobile device or a printed copy of this order confirmation (both must include the barcode). 

Once you arrive at Sun Peaks, there are a number of locations where you can pick up your ticket. The most efficient options are our ticket pick-up boxes; four contact-less ticket kiosks located slopeside at the Village Day Lodge (available early December). In addition to the kiosks, tickets can be picked up at the ticket windows at the Village Day Lodge (parking lot side), the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre at Mt. Morrisey, and the base of the Burfield and Morrisey chairlifts.

Season Pass Pick Up

Season Passes can be picked up during regular operating hours, 8:00am to 4:30pm daily, at Guest Services in the Village Day Lodge. 

Please arrive prepared and wearing a face mask. One member per family may pick up multiple passes, as long as all pass holders have completed waivers and uploaded images to their online profile. You can log in to your online profile to upload a photo here. If you purchased your pass prior to September 15 please check your confirmation email for a link to complete the online waiver, otherwise you would have completed the waiver during the purchase process.

MOUNTAIN COLLECTIVE PASS HOLDERS

The two free days have no restrictions. Additional 50% off days have no blackout dates, but are subject to availability. There will be a limited amount of tickets available for sale each day to manage guest numbers, overall guest experience and ensure safety protocols are followed.

  • To redeem your two free Mountain Collective day tickets, please visit Guest Services in the Village Day Lodge on any day of the season. No blackouts or ticket restrictions apply.
  • A profile will be created for you at this time providing you access to secure any additional days via our online store. Please note you will not be able to view this product on the online store until a profile has been created in our system for you.
  • If your initial visit is for three or more consecutive days or you would like to book your additional 50% off tickets ahead of time, please contact Guest Services at guestservices@sunpeaksresort.com or call 250.578.5474.

SILVERSTAR ALPINE SEASON PASS HOLDERS

Reciprocal discounts are only valid when both partner resorts are open.

SilverStar Mountain Alpine season pass holders receive two (2) complimentary tickets at the partnering resort! Due to COVID-19, restrictions are in place for usage as follows:

  • Usage restricted to Monday to Thursday throughout the season
  • Blackout for Christmas Holidays: Saturday, December 19, 2020 to Sunday, January 3, 2021
  • Blackout for Family Day/President’s Day: Thursday, February 11, 2021 to Wednesday, February 17, 2021

Guests holding a complimentary pass, dependent pass or other discount product do not qualify.

WHISTLER BLACKCOMB UNLIMITED PASS HOLDERS

Reciprocal discounts are only valid when both partner resorts are open.

Whistler Blackcomb Unlimited pass holders are able to ski for 50% off every Monday to Thursday throughout the winter season, with the exception of December 21, 2020 to January 3, 2021 and February 11 to 17, 2021. No advance purchase or reservation is required to take advantage of this offer. Please visit Guest Services or a ticket window in resort with your valid Whistler Blackcomb Unlimited pass and photo ID to purchase your discounted ticket. We look forward to seeing you on the slopes! 

Reload Your Mountain Card (RFID)

Your Mountain Card, whether originally purchased as a day ticket or a Season Pass, can be reloaded with additional products for this season and beyond, so hold onto it for future use. There is a $5.00 fee each time you are issued a new card, so it pays to re-use it!

Adding additional days to your Mountain Card in advance via the online store will allow you to go direct-to-lift upon arrival in resort.

Guest Services

The indoor capacity of Guest Services is reserved for Season Pass pick up and Sports School bookings only. Staff at the exterior Ticket Windows at the side of the Village Day Lodge can assist with day ticket pick up, as well as general resort information. 

RFID

New this season, Sun Peaks Resort has upgraded all passes and lifts to include RFID technology, providing contact-less and efficient lift loading for guests. Additional information about how to use the new RFID Mountain Cards can be found here.

Lift Lines and Chairlifts

Guests are asked to follow the direction of physical distancing signage while in lift lines and ride with those you came with.

Lift Lines - Face Coverings Are Required

Face coverings are required in all lift lines. Face coverings will also be required while riding all chairlifts and surface lifts.

Guests who are travelling or skiing together can be seated together on chairlifts. To ensure the safety of all skiers and staff, groups of guests will not be seated with people outside of their bubble. Two unrelated single skiers may ride lifts together, sitting on opposite sides of the quad chairlift. However, singles will not be required to ride with another guest if they are not comfortable and would prefer to ride alone.

We ask all guests to avoid congregating in large groups outside of lift lines, or in lift unloading areas, and take advantage of our wide-open spaces to enjoy safely!

SUN PEAKS REsort RENTALS & RETAIL OPERATIONS

Face masks will be required when guests are inside Sun Peaks Rentals, as well as in all Sun Peaks operated retail locations including: Sun Peaks Sports, Elevation Bike Ski & Board, The North Face Mountain Outfitters, Three Peaks, Fall Line Tuning and Repair Centre, John Tod Trading Co., and Southside Board Shop. 

Specific information regarding rental facilities can be found below, otherwise guests should follow the instructions from signage and staff at all retail locations.

Sun Peaks Rentals

From early December, all rental reservations will be online, with skier/rider specific information collected, required waivers completed, and all payment information collected through the online booking process. Rental pick up times will be selected online. Guests are encouraged to utilize extended hours at Sun Peaks Rentals to pick up equipment the evening prior to your day on the mountain.

Rental returns will be facilitated through an outdoor location, eliminating the need for guests to re-enter the building.

All Nordic rentals will be located at the Nordic Centre, P5 at Morrisey Base.

Elevation bike, ski & Board

From early December, all rental reservations will be online, with skier/rider specific information collected, required waivers completed, and all payment information collected through the online booking process. Rental pick up times will be selected online. Guests are encouraged to utilize extended hours to pick up equipment the evening prior to your day on the mountain.

Rental returns will be facilitated through an outdoor location, eliminating the need for guests to re-enter the building.

Rental and retail space at Elevation Bike, Ski & Board has been separated, to reduce congestion and improve the flow of guests in both the retail shop and the rental area. The rental area will service one group or family at a time, with no exceptions.

Mountain Dining

We encourage all guests to be patient and kind to one-another, and follow the instructions of signage and staff in our Mountain Dining locations. As all locations are operating with reduced capacity, guests are asked to be courteous with the time spent inside our dining facilities, as wait lists are likely during peak times. Dining hosts will provide additional information at the time of arrival.

The Annex

The Annex will be open for quick in-and-out beverage and snack pick up, as well as sit-down dining. There will be no equipment or bag storage permitted inside The Annex. Entry into The Annex will be clearly marked, and limited to the doors on the Village side of the building. Follow instructions for both quick pick up and for sit-down dining. Face masks will be required inside The Annex at all times, unless you are seated. We ask guests to remain seated once the ordering and pick up of your meal is complete. The Annex host staff will provide any additional information upon entry.

Annex Outdoors & Umbrella Café

New for the 2020-21 season, The Annex will have additional food, beverage, and seating options outside, slopeside of the building. The Umbrella Café will offer a full beverage service, as well as a limited selection of snacks and food options. Guests will be required to wear a face covering at outdoor dining facilities unless seated. More information to come regarding our new and expanded flexible outdoor dining options. 

Masa’s Bar + Grill

Masa’s Bar + Grill is back, with a fresh look, new menu items, a covered and heated patio, and an expanded draft beer list. Face masks will be required inside Masa’s Bar + Grill at all times, unless you are seated. We ask all guests to remain seated unless using restrooms. Masa’s host staff will provide any additional information upon entry.

Sunburst Lodge

The Sunburst Lodge is open for sit-down dining and bar service on the upper level, as well as on the patio. Guests are asked to follow the instructions of hosts upon entry, and to wear face masks at all times unless seated. We ask guests to remain seated once ordering and pick up of your meal is complete, unless using restroom facilities.

New this year is the Sunburst Grab and Go! Located in the lower level, this bodega offers a selection of pre-made snacks and beverages for quick service. There will be limited indoor seating on the lower level of Sunburst Lodge, and guests are required to wear face masks unless seated as you enter and move about the facility.

Sports School

The Sun Peaks Sports School is offering a variety of private and small group lessons for guests ages 6 and older this season.

Guests are encouraged to book lessons online or by phone at 250.578.5505, in advance of arrival.

Lessons will have capacity restrictions to ensure the safety of participants and instructors. Lesson capacities are applicable based on the following age ranges:

  • Children 6-9 years of age: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of three (3) participants plus instructor.
  • 10-12 years of age: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of five (5) participants plus instructor.
  • 13 years of age and older: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of three (3) participants plus instructor.

Please arrive at the meeting area in advance of your lesson time. Alpine lessons will meet at the Rendezvous hut, slopeside of the Village Day Lodge near the base of Sunburst Express. Nordic lessons will meet at the Nordic Centre at Mt. Morrisey base. All participants will be required to follow resort guidelines on physical distancing and face coverings. 

Please do not arrive for your lesson if you are feeling unwell, have travelled outside Canada within the last 14 days, or have been in contact with someone confirmed COVID-19 positive within the last 14 days. If you become unwell between booking and the day of your lesson, please call 250.578.5505 to cancel your reservation.

Please ensure all equipment is in working order prior to arrival, as instructors will have limited contact with the equipment of lesson participants.

That space will increase to more than five (5) metres when skiing or riding. All participants must wear a face covering that covers both their nose and mouth at all times when stationary during the lesson.

Instructors will carry hand sanitizer, and provide any updated or lesson specific information at the start of your lesson. Please note, lessons will not include lunch this season. Please arrive prepared with a pocket snack.

Riding the chairlift

We ask all lesson participants to be capable of loading and riding the Sunburst Express high-speed detachable quad chairlift. Anyone under 1.35 metres in height will be assigned an accompanying person to load and ride with. Lesson participants may load in groups, as long as the others on the chair are within their bubble.

Access to the Nordic Centre is limited to a capacity of six (6) people at any time. Guests are asked to wear a face mask at all times when inside the Nordic Centre, and to follow the direction of staff and signage when inside the facility.

The Nordic Centre is accessible via Parking Lot 5 (P5) at Mt. Morrisey, as well as the In-Resort Shuttle, from the village by foot via the Valley Trail, or by ski via the Village Trail.

Between November 16 to 22 Season Passes can be picked up during the extended opening hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm daily at Guest Services. As an additional option to help with traffic flow, passes can also be picked up at the Activities Desk in the Village Day Lodge Breezeway between the hours of 8:00am to 4:30pm daily.

If picking up your Nordic Season Pass after November 22, please proceed to Guest Services in the Village Day Lodge during their regular winter hours of operation.

Nordic rentals

New this year, all Nordic rentals will be located at the Nordic Centre.

Instructors will create an environment that promotes effective communication, to ensure participants can hear and understand instruction. Should parents or guardians need to notify instructors of important child information prior to a lesson, we ask that this be communicated through the booking process.

Instructors will carry hand sanitizer, and provide any updated or lesson specific information at the start of your lesson. Nordic programs are designed to avoid the need for breaks during the lesson. Please bring your own water bottle and pocket snack, and be prepared to be outside for the duration of your lesson.

Riding the Lift

Truly unique to Sun Peaks is lift accessed Nordic skiing on Mt. Morrisey. Nordic skiers can hop aboard the Morrisey Express to access Holy Cow trail at the summit. Nordic skiers are asked to adhere to all lift line and chairlift procedures, including physical distancing, and wearing a proper face covering while in line and riding the lift.

mcgillivray lake outpost

Located at the end of the McGillivray Lake Trail, the Outpost is a popular destination for Nordic skiers at Sun Peaks. The Outpost will have a limited capacity of 15 people at any time. Guests are asked to wear a proper face mask when inside the Outpost, and to follow the direction of signage when inside the facility.

Lodging

The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel and Conference Centre

The Sun Peaks Grand Hotel has modified several operating procedures to ensure the health and safety of all guests and staff is the top priority. For additional information on your stay at the Sun Peaks Grand, please see the arrival and stay guide.

Resort Accommodation

For all other resort accommodators, please contact your accommodation provider for their specific operating policies and safety procedures.

Suspended Services

Due to safety concerns regarding distancing and sanitation, the following activities are unfortunately suspended for the winter 2020-21 season:

Village Carpet - Updated Hours

Updated operating hours for the season, open 8:30am to 3:30pm daily.

Select Events

Events with over 50 attendees, with the exception of competition events where physical distancing can be maintained. Competition spectators are not permitted.

Locker Facilities

Locker facilities in the Village Day Lodge and The Annex are not available.

Tube Time and the Bungee Trampoline

Closed until further notice.

Childminding

Closed until further notice.
