Covid-19 + Winter 2021-22

We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to fresh mountain air and wide open spaces this winter. We have always been committed to the health and safety of our guests, employees, and locals, and this season is no exception.

Our focus this season is following all current government public health orders as well as employing practices that we confidently believe are in the best interests of all. We will continue to do our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. All policies are subject to change to comply with government health orders and the evolving nature of the pandemic.

Key areas of focus this winter

Mandatory face coverings in all indoor spaces. This is in accordance with the BC Provincial Health Order, and applies to anyone ages 5+. This includes retail, rental, restaurants, hotels, restrooms, etc. – any and all indoor spaces. Please see below for more detail.

Proof of vaccination to dine. In accordance with the BC Provincial Health Order, proof of vaccination for those ages 12+ is required to dine in all Sun Peaks Resort LLP food and beverage outlets (and all table service restaurants in Sun Peaks). Please see below for more detail.

Chairlift experience. We continue to encourage the use of face coverings and physical distancing in lift lines for the comfort and safety of those around you. If it’s your preference, you can load the chairlifts as an individual or in the group you came with. Please inform the lift attendant if this is your preference. Please see below for more detail.

Employee vaccinations. In the spirit of protecting our guests, employees, and local community, we are requiring all Sun Peaks Resort LLP and Sun Peaks Grand Hotel employees and volunteers to be fully vaccinated, as a condition of entering the facilities and providing services either directly or indirectly to guests. Please see below for more detail.

Sports School. We will be offering a variety of private and group lessons for alpine and Nordic skiers this season. Face coverings must be worn, physical distancing protocols are in place, and we'll be operating with the same smaller lesson capacities. Please see below for more detail.

Secure your lift ticket online, in advance. We continue to encourage the purchase of lift tickets online, in advance, to guarantee access. The quantity of tickets available for sale each day may be limited. Ticket pick-up is available from convenient outdoor kiosks or ticket windows. Please see below for more detail on our ticket policies.

BUY ONLINE

We continue to employ stringent cleaning and sanitization practices, require daily employee health screenings and encourage use of cashless transactions. Hand sanitizing stations are provided throughout the resort.

If you are unable to follow these guidelines and protocols, you will be asked to leave the premises.

PROOF OF VACCINATION IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

By order of the Provincial Health Officer, guests must be fully vaccinated and are required to provide proof of vaccination to access certain businesses, services, and events. This requirement is currently in place until January 31, 2022, with the possibility of extension. See below for where proof of vaccination is required in Sun Peaks.

Please note:

  • Proof of vaccination is required for each indoor entry, as vaccine status is not tracked.
  • Vaccine exemptions are not accepted.
  • Negative COVID-19 test is not accepted.

WHAT QUALIFIES AS PROOF OF VACCINATION?

For BC Residents, you must show your BC Vaccine Card (digital or printed copy), and a piece of valid government photo ID. For example, driver’s license (including interim license), passport, or photo ID issued by another province or territory. Your Vaccine Card will be scanned. For BC residents, you cannot use your immunization card as proof of vaccination.

For guests outside of the province, you must show provincial/territorially officially recognized vaccination record and valid government photo ID.

For international guests, you must show proof of vaccination used to enter Canada and valid passport or driver’s license. International guests can use the ArriveCan app as proof of vaccination.

The names on both pieces needs to match.

WHERE DO I NEED TO SHOW PROOF OF VACCINATION?

You are required to show proof of vaccination (meeting the above stated requirements) in Sun Peaks Resort at the following:

  • All licensed restaurants and cafés, as well as restaurants and cafés that offer table service, for both indoor and patio dining.
  • Pubs, bars, and lounges, for both indoor and patio dining.

ARE YOUR EMPLOYEES VACCINATED?  

Sun Peaks Resort and the Sun Peaks Grand Hotel recognize that full vaccination against COVID-19 greatly reduces both the spread of the virus and the risk of serious illness or death as a result of contracting the virus. Given the very focus of our industry is in hospitality and we welcome guests from many different places each year, our number one priority this season is to keep everyone safe while maintaining our operations. We are requiring all SPR LLP and Sun Peaks Grand Hotel employees and volunteers to be fully vaccinated, as a condition of entering the facilities and providing services either directly or indirectly to guests.

GUEST RESPONSIBILITY & ARRIVAL INFORMATION

Please review the following frequently asked questions when planning your trip to Sun Peaks. 

When should I not visit Sun Peaks?

For the health and safety of fellow guests and staff, please do not visit under the following circumstances:

  1. If you are showing symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. Simply put, if you’re feeling sick, please stay home. For symptom details visit BC Centre for Disease Control
  2. If you are unvaccinated and live in a household with someone who has COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone sick or infected with COVID-19.
  3. *Due to the changing nature of federal health orders and entry requirements, if you're arriving/returning to Canada, please visit the Government of Canada Travel, quarantine and borders webpage to ensure you follow necessary protocols. 

what constitues a face covering?

In accordance with the BC Public Health Order, a face covering is a mask or a tightly woven fabric that covers both the mouth and nose. When indoors in Sun Peaks Resort facilities, the PHO order requires guests ages 5+ to wear a face covering. Forms of ski outerwear with ventilation holes and face shields are not accepted forms of face coverings as they don't tightly cover the mouth and nose. Disposable masks are available at all Sun Peaks Resort facilities if you do not have one. 

A face covering is encouraged when in lift lines and while riding chairlifts.

A face covering is required to be worn during lessons. 

Signage - what can I expect?

While in Sun Peaks, you will come across informative and consistent COVID-19 policy signage throughout the village and its facilities. Please respect and follow all instructions for the health and safety of all. This includes posted capacity limits when entering establishments, encouraged/requested physical distancing, and mask guidelines, among others.

Where can I Park?

Parking will be available at the following locations:

  1. Burfield P1 (limited)
  2. The Annex P2
  3. Village Day Lodge P3 (limited)
  4. Mt. Morrisey P5

Traffic flow in the Village Day Lodge and The Annex parking lots may be modified to accommodate increased vehicle traffic. Upon arrival to Sun Peaks, follow the direction of attendants or signage to point you from Sun Peaks Road to available parking.

IS EQUIPMENT STORAGE AVAILABLE?

To maintain a safe experience for guests and staff, there is no indoor storage for belongings available this winter. Please leave all personal belongings in your vehicle, and ensure your vehicle is locked and items are secure. 

ACCESSING FOOD AND BEVERAGE

While new protocols are in place this season for dining in Sun Peaks, there are options for everyone. 

WHICH Sun Peaks Resort LLP OUTLETS REQUIRE PROOF OF VACCINATION?

The following restaurants require proof of vaccination to dine in. Face coverings are required to enter the facility and when not seated at your table.

  • Masa’s Bar + Grill, The Annex Food + Drink, and The Sunburst Bar + Eatery (located mid-mountain) require proof of vaccination to dine in-house and on patios. Entrance to The Annex for dining in will be located at the west end of the building this season (parking lot side). Note: While The Annex and Sunburst Bar + Eatery are cafeteria-style dining and not mandated under the PHO, we have made the decision to require proof of vaccination at these establishments due to the high volume of patronage and large capacities. Grab-n-go items are available without proof of vaccination, please see below for detail. 
  • All Sun Peaks Grand Hotel restaurants require proof of vaccination to dine in-house and on patios, including Mantles Restaurant, Mantles Lounge, and Morrisey’s Public House.

I DON’T HAVE PROOF OF VACCINATION, WHERE CAN I EAT?

There are a number of convenient Sun Peaks Resort LLP food outlets where you can access grab-n-go items. Remember, face coverings are still required when indoors.

  • Umbrella Café. All guests can utilize the outdoor picnic table area or the new, casual tented dining area. 
  • Café Soleil. Purchase items to-go; enter via the Village Day Lodge slopeside outdoor entrance.
  • The Annex. Access to the coffee bar and baked goods will be available this season by a separate entrance via the east end (village side) of the building. Dining-in entrance (proof of vaccination required) is via the west end doors (parking lot side). 
  • Sunburst Lodge at mid-mountain. We will continue to offer a grab-n-go selection from the indoor kiosk located on ground level. Guests utilizing this service can dine-in at the adjacent indoor eating area.
  • From a variety of independent, quick-service establishments in the village.
  • SPR LLP may be adding additional outdoor, picnic-style dining areas. Stay tuned.  

WHICH restrooms ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC?

The following Sun Peaks Resort LLP restrooms are available without proof of vaccination. A face covering must be worn indoors at all times: 

  • Village Day Lodge, basement level
  • The Sunburst Lodge at mid-mountain, ground level
  • The Annex, via outside entry on south side of building 
  • Umbrella Café at Mt. Morrisey
  • All on-mountain outdoor restrooms (outhouses)
  • Additional outhouses will be added as required

LIFT LINES AND RIDING CHAIRLIFTS

WHAT’S NEW THIS WINTER?

We continue to encourage the use of face coverings in lift lines and on chairlifts, and encourage physical distancing while in line.

While we won’t require guests to ride the chairlifts with those outside their party, you can if you choose to. If you prefer to ride the chairlift with only those you are travelling with, please inform the lift attendant and your request will be met. Singles will not be required to ride with another guest if they are not comfortable and would prefer to ride alone.

We ask all guests to avoid congregating in large groups outside of lift lines, or in lift unloading areas, and take advantage of our wide-open spaces to enjoy safely!

TICKETS AND SEASON PASSES (ALPINE & NORDIC)

We continue to encourage the purchase of lift tickets online, in advance, to guarantee access. The quantity of tickets available for sale each day may be limited.

DO I VISIT GUEST SERVICES FOR TICKETS?

The indoor capacity of Guest Services is reserved for Season Pass pick up, Sports School bookings, and reciprocal pass ticket redemption only. Staff at the exterior Ticket Windows at the parking lot side of the Village Day Lodge can assist with general resort information. 

HOW DO I PURCHASE OR PICK-UP MY DAY TICKET?

We strongly encourage guests to purchase your day ticket in advance, online. Some tickets may be available for purchase in-resort if quantities are available, these can be purchased from our outdoor ticket windows.

Remember, if you possess an RFID Mountain Card (from last winter or summer) you can, and should, use this same card going forward to avoid a $5 new card fee. If you end up with multiple cards, any card will work to scan as all cards are linked to your current products (only one card can be scanned per day).

The most efficient option to pick-up pre-purchased alpine tickets are the ticket pick-up kiosks; four contact-less ticket kiosks located slopeside at the Village Day Lodge. In addition to the kiosks, tickets can be picked up at the ticket windows at the Village Day Lodge (parking lot side) and the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre at Mt. Morrisey.

Redeem your ticket with your order confirmation email. You can use your mobile device or a printed copy of this order confirmation (both must include the barcode). 

The most efficient option for Nordic skiers is from the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre at Mt. Morrisey. Nordic tickets can also be picked up from the areas listed above.

HOW DO I PICK UP MY SEASON PASS?

Season Passes can be picked up during regular operating hours, 8:00am to 4:30pm daily, at Guest Services in the Village Day Lodge. As a reminder, if you already possess an RFID Mountain Card from another season or product, we strongly encourage you to reload that card and avoid paying a $5 new card fee. If you end up with multiple cards, any card will work to scan as all cards are linked to your current products (only one card can be scanned per day).

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY DAY TICKET?

As a standard policy, Sun Peaks Resort lift tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable. However, there are modifications to this policy due to the impacts and circumstances surrounding COVID-19. We want to ensure all guests are able to purchase with confidence. 

The following policies and procedures will be in place for Alpine and Nordic Day Ticket cancellations/refunds for the winter 2021-22 season:

  1. If lift access is fully closed for purchased dates, guests will receive a full refund.
  2. If lift access is open, but a documented and verifiable government travel restriction prevents a guest from being able to travel to Sun Peaks, guests receive a full refund.
  3. If lift access is open, but the guest is unable to travel for any other reason, our standard policy applies

WHAT ARE RFID CARDS?

Last year, Sun Peaks Resort upgraded all passes/tickets and lifts to include RFID technology, providing contact-less and efficient lift loading for guests. Additional information about how to use the new RFID Mountain Cards can be found here.

Your Mountain Card, whether originally purchased as a day ticket or a Season Pass in either season, can (and should!) be reloaded with additional products for this season and beyond. Hold onto it for all future use. There is a $5 fee each time you are issued a new card, so it pays to re-use, and it helps the environment! If you end up with multiple cards, any card will work to scan as all cards are linked to your current products (only one card can be scanned per day).

Adding additional days to your Mountain Card in advance via the online store will allow you to go direct-to-lift upon arrival in resort.

SPORTS SCHOOL - Alpine & NORDIC LESSONS

The Sun Peaks Sports School is offering a variety of private and small group lessons for all ages again this season. Remember, if you feel unwell, please call us ahead to cancel.

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS DURING YOUR LESSON

All participants must wear a face covering that covers both their nose and mouth at all times when stationary during the lesson. Instructors will be maintaining two (2) metres of space between themselves and participants when stationary during lessons. That space will increase to more than five (5) metres when skiing or riding.

BOOKING LESSONS & LESSON CAPACITIES

Guests are encouraged to book alpine and Nordic lessons in advance of arrival.

Alpine lessons will have capacity restrictions to ensure the safety of participants and instructors. Lesson capacities are applicable based on the following age ranges:

  • Children 3-6 years of age: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of three (3) participants plus instructor.
  • Children 10-12 years of age: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of five (5) participants plus instructor.
  • 13 years of age and older: Private and group lessons available, with a maximum of three (3) participants for group and five (5) participants for private plus instructor. 

Instructors will create an environment that promotes effective communication, to ensure participants can hear and understand instruction. Should parents or guardians need to notify instructors of important child information prior to a lesson, we ask that this be communicated through the booking process.

Instructors will provide any updated or lesson specific information at the start of your lesson. 

SPR RENTALS, RETAIL & OTHER GUEST FACILITIES

In accordance with the public health order, face masks are required when guests are inside any premises, including all SPR rental and retail locations. Please follow any additional posted protocols such as capacity limits and requests for physical distancing.

NORDIC FACILITIES & RENTALS

The Nordic Centre is located at the base of Mt. Morrisey and is accessible via: Parking Lot 5 (P5) at Mt. Morrisey, the In-Resort Shuttle, from the village by foot via the Valley Trail, or by Nordic ski via the Village Trail. Here you can pick up and purchase Nordic day tickets and rentals. Access to the Nordic Centre is limited to a capacity of six (6) people, plus staff, at any time. 

Located at the end of the McGillivray Lake Trail, the McGillivray Lake Outpost is a popular destination for Nordic skiers at Sun Peaks. The Outpost will have a limited capacity of 15 people at any time.
