All Three Mountains Open to Kick Off Winter 2020-21!

Updated November 20, 2020

It's official, this opening is going to be a big one! We'll have all three mountains, over 100 runs, and all of our chairlifts open for you to enjoy tomorrow. We'll also have 100% of the Nordic network open, groomed, track set, and ready to ski.

You can check out our Lift and Trails Status page for full details of which runs will be open.

Our automated ticket pick up kiosks are not quite ready to go yet, but you can pick up your pre-purchased day tickets at the ticket windows in the Village Day Lodge (parking lot side), the Sun Peaks Nordic Centre at Mt. Morrisey, and the base of the Burfield and Morrisey chairlifts.

Remember, be kind, be patient, and be respectful tomorrow so we can all have an awesome opening day. See you on the slopes!

It has been a long and crazy year, but the wait for winter is almost over in Sun Peaks! We are excited to officially kick off the ski and snowboard season this Saturday, November 21. It’s lining up to be a fantastic opening day, with all three of our mountains and all major lifts (including the new Crystal!) open to give everyone plenty of room to spread out. All open lifts will be spinning on regular operating hours, which can be found here.

Nordic skiers, come join the fun! We will have a solid selection of our Nordic network open, groomed, and track set ready to go on Saturday as well. Stay tuned, as we will update this article again on Friday afternoon with more details of exactly what will be open for both Alpine and Nordic, including total number of trails and more.

Please remember that despite some strong pre-season snowfall it is still early season conditions out there on the slopes. Keep that stoke in check a little and ski and ride with caution. As tempting as it is to chase fresh tracks, please also respect all signage and terrain closures – it’s there for your safety and the safety of our on-mountain teams.

And while we’re stoked that you’re stoked, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there will unfortunately be no overnight or early morning camping for first chair permitted this year. Instead, all you keeners can start lining up, appropriately physically distanced of course, at your favourite lift beginning at 7:00am. Arrive prepared with proper face coverings for lift lines and chairlifts, and face masks for indoor spaces. Please help us by respecting these procedures so we can keep things running smoothly for you on Saturday.

As we all know, this is not a normal year so planning ahead is key this winter. Before you visit us for opening day please ensure you do the following:

Purchase your Tickets in Advance

In order to kick off the season smoothly, day tickets must be purchased in advance through our online store. Quantities will initially be quite limited as we ramp up our operations for the winter. With this reduced capacity we are expecting remaining day tickets for opening weekend to sell out quickly, so we recommend you purchase now to avoid disappointment.

Pick up your Season Pass or Day Ticket

If possible, please pick up your Season Pass or pre-purchased Day Ticket before opening day. That way you can head straight to the lifts on Saturday. Guest Services is open for extended hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm daily this week to help facilitate this, plus these hours will be further extended to an 8:00pm close on Friday night.

During opening weekend passes or tickets can also be picked up at the ticket windows at the base of the Morrisey Express and Burfield chairlifts from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Nordic Season Passes and Day Tickets can be picked up at these locations too, as well as at the Nordic Centre.

Questions about pass pick up? You can contact the Guest Services team via email at guestservices@sunpeaksresort.com or by calling 250.578.5474.

Read our COVID-19 Policy and Procedures Guide

There are a lot of changes in place this year to help us have a successful and safe ski season. Please read our COVID-19 Policy and Procedures information before you arrive and come prepared with a face mask, as well as everything else you need to have an enjoyable day on the slopes. We recommend bringing a spare mask to use in indoor spaces in case your primary one becomes wet or frozen throughout the day.

Remember to Be Patient, Be Respectful, and Be Kind

Our team members have been working harder than ever behind the scenes to ensure we can get this winter season up and running in challenging times. Despite their efforts, some aspects of our operations may not be ready right from the start of the season and there may be some hiccups as we adjust to our new operating procedures. We urge everyone to please be patient and to show respect and kindness to our staff as well as to each other so that we can all enjoy these first turns of the season together. We also encourage all guests to respect any current travel restrictions or other public health authority guidelines.

See you on Saturday!
