Sun Peaks Summer Chairlift Operations Begin June 13, 2026

Published June 11, 2026

Summer chairlift operations are set to begin at Sun Peaks Resort, marking the start of the 2026 hiking and Bike Park season.

Chairlift operations commence on Saturday, June 13, at 10:00am, on our official Opening Day.

For season pass holders, the fun begins on Friday, June 12, during Pre-Ride/Hike Day from 2:00pm to 7:00pm.

We're thrilled with how the trails look this early in the season, thanks to both favourable weather conditions and the hard work of our slopes and Bike Park crews, who have been preparing the trail networks over the past several weeks. A significant portion of both the Sun Peaks hiking trail network and Sun Peaks Bike Park terrain will be open, providing plenty of options for early-season hiking adventures and bike park laps. We're excited to welcome you back for your summer mountain adventures.

What to Expect

Hiking Trail Network

The following hiking trails will remain closed at opening:

  • Saddleback (#3)
  • Gil's (#9)
  • Tod Peak (#11)
  • Tod's Backside (#12)
  • West Bowl (#7) closed from junction of West Ridge (#10) to Tod Lake

NOTE: We had previously indicated that Tod Lake was already accessible, but that is no longer the case due to recent snow this week. This trail will open as soon as conditions permit. You can enjoy a loop connecting West Bowl and West Ridge - be prepared for wet conditions with muddy areas. Top of the World Trail will be open for hikers seeking outstanding views.

Be prepared for wet trail conditions, dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear. Light snow was recorded at higher elevations earlier this week.

For the latest information on trail openings, visit Hiking Trail Status.

Bike Park

All three Bike Park lifts will operate at opening: Sunburst Express, Sundance Express and the Progression Park carpet lift.

On Tod Mountain, accessed via Sunburst Express, 23 trails will open, including the novice trail Level Up. On Sundance Mountain, nine trails will open, including fan favourites Stella Blue and Might As Well.

For a full rundown of trail openings, visit Bike Park Trail Status.

Please note that the higher-elevation pedal trails — Altitude, Dr. Feelgood, Big Rock Ride and Electric Avenue — have not yet been assessed and remain closed to bike traffic.

Trail openings and operating conditions are subject to change based on weather, trail conditions and maintenance requirements. Please check trail status before your visit.

Mt. Morrisey Community Trail Network

The Sun Peaks Recreational Trail Association has also been hard at work preparing the community trail network and has opened trails on Mt. Morrisey earlier than ever before.
