As we gear up for the 2025–26 ski and snowboard season, we’re excited to share some of the latest updates, improvements and experiences waiting for you on and off the slopes.
As shared last season, we’re continuing to add resiliency to our winter season! Sun Peaks Resort is investing $5.5 million in snowmaking upgrades which will: support the early November opening of the Nancy Greene International Race Centre, help to ensure our mid-November public opening, and provide in-season fill-in as required. A six-year project that began in 2024, picture a growing fleet of high-tech snow guns, new on-mountain coverage areas, upgraded infrastructure, and smart automation for added efficiency (weather stations on the guns themselves!). At present, Sun Peaks operates 36 snow guns, including 19 fan guns on OSV run alone, running 30 million gallons of water through the system annually.
Our operations teams have been busy with several key on-mountain projects to improve winter trails.
Highlights include:
Sun Peaks is the first resort in Canada to adopt cutting-edge Finnish snow storage technology, keeping a massive pile of snow protected through the summer. How? Giant insulated mats (18 of them!) with built-in monitoring are protecting 14,000 m³ of snow until late fall. With a retention rate of 75-85%, this snow will be spread over the lower half of OSV to kickstart early-season training at the Nancy Greene International Race Centre, where hundreds of athletes train each year to gain their competitive edge. The snowmaking water saved will move to other critical areas, such as 5 Mile, Terrain Park and Beginner Area.
We’ve made it easier for everyone to enjoy mid-mountain dining and views. The Sunburst Lodge now features a brand-new accessibility ramp, giving smooth access to the lodge’s top story where the Sunburst Bar + Eatery and patio are located. This is the prime spot for fueling up and taking in the alpine scenery.
Families, get ready, we’ll have FOUR kids adventure zones open this winter season! These playful and interactive on-mountain areas celebrate Sun Peaks’ wildlife with fun artwork designed by local creator Zuzy Rocka. New this winter: Moose’s Cabin on Tod Mountain features a small walk-in cabin and Foxes’ Den in the Orient zone features magical ski-through archways. They join the existing Grouse’s Nest on Mt. Morrisey and Bears’ Lair on Sundance Mountain.
This $200,000 refresh focuses on relaxation, spectating and meet-ups between laps. A new elevated stone walkway will stretch from Masa’s Bar + Grill patio to the far east end of the building, creating a welcoming path lined with six fire pits. With expanded seating and cozy gathering spots, it’s the ultimate place to warm up, swap stories and soak up the mountain vibe this winter.
Ready to rack up rewards while you shred? Our new Alpine Icons program is returning for the winter! After a big summer success in mountain biking, we’re hitting the slopes with a fun lineup of prizes. The rules are simple: the more days scanned, the more milestones you reach and Alpine Icons you unlock. Stay tuned for the full prize reveal this fall—you won’t want to miss what’s up for grabs.
