Sun Peaks Village At Night

After a full day of skiing most people are ready to kick back and relax with an après drink, a dip in the hot tub, or a delicious meal at one of our village restaurants. However, there are always a few hardy souls who can’t get enough time on the slopes, even if they ski from the first chair of the day to the last.

If you’re looking to maximize every minute of your time in Sun Peaks here are five ways that you can get out on the mountains after the lifts have closed:

Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent

Indulge in Fondue then ski under the stars

A signature activity here in Sun Peaks, the Alpine Fondue & Starlight Descent is a bucket list worthy alpine dining experience. After the rest of the day’s skiers are off the mountain and the chairlifts have stopped turning, you’ll partake in a special boarding of the Sunburst chairlift for an exclusive twilight ride up to the mid-mountain Sunburst Bar + Eatery. A warm welcome awaits at the top, where you’ll be transported to The Alps with a delicious three course, Swiss-style fondue dinner and dessert, inspired by our Executive Chef’s roots in the alpine hamlets of Switzerland.

After dinner, walking out into the alpine night will reveal a freshly groomed 5 Mile run glittering in the moonlight. With the help of a headlamp and a guide, you’ll click into your bindings and descend back to the warm glow of the village lights, while a myriad of stars blaze overhead in the crisp mountain air.

It's a breathtaking way to get in one more run for the day.

Grooming cat at sunset

Take a Ride in a groomer

Step behind the scenes and discover how Sun Peaks Resort’s grooming team work their magic on the ski runs each night.

You’ll have to leave your skis or snowboard behind for this one, but a Cat Trax Groomer Ride is a unique way to enjoy a Sun Peaks sunset and get a new perspective on our terrain. Our grooming team are a wealth of resort knowledge and have plenty of stories to share—there’s not much they haven’t seen during many nights cruising the mountains in the dark!

First tracks on the Crystal chairlift

Score First Tracks

Flipping the script, the First Tracks experience extends your ski day at the other end by getting you up early onto the slopes to enjoy fresh powder, or corduroy, before the chairlifts open to the rest of our guests.

You’ll have to set your alarm for this one, but the rewards are worth it: an early load up the Sunburst chairlift, a complimentary hot chocolate for the ride up, and exclusive access of the Crystal chairlift terrain zone before everyone else.

To maximise your ski time, First Tracks also includes a meal voucher for The Annex or the Sunburst Bar + Eatery for your choice of breakfast or lunch. You can stop in for a quick refuel then be back on the slopes in no time. Then when you finally decide that you’ve had enough, a bonus $10 Happy Hour voucher to Masa’s Bar + Grill awaits, where you can toast to a great day on the mountain.

Tubing at sunset

It's Tubing Time!

Fun for both kids and kids at heart! Tube Time is open daily until 7:00 pm so you can swing by after the chairlifts are closed. The curving, banked lanes of the tube park will help you extend the fun of snow sliding long after you’ve hung up your skis or snowboard for the day, plus your kids will love this super sized take on tobogganing.

Tube Time can be hard to see from the village, but once you’ve purchased your tickets from Guest Services or the Activities Desk just head up the Village Carpet lift to discover this family friendly after-hours activity.

Snowshoe and S'mores tour

Explore Forest Trails on Skis, Snowshoes, or Snowmobiles

Under a blanket of fresh snow and lit by starlight, the forests around Sun Peaks take on a magical appearance at night. If you’ve still got energy left from your ski day then we’ve got plenty of options to help you experience the beauty of the winter forest after dark.

With help from our Nordic hosts and skis of the skinny kind, our Starlight Nordic Ski Adventure will take you on a peaceful glide through the moonlit forest. Your destination? A cozy log cabin nestled by a frozen lake, where you’ll take a break and warm up before embarking on the return trip. There’s just two chances a year to experience this special experience, which is happening on December 29th and January 5th this season.

If you’re looking for a slower pace or have little ones in tow, then the Moonlight Snowshoe & S’Mores experience is for you. This tour serves up an easy introduction to snowshoeing, complete with stunning views over the lights of the village and (of course) a roaring fire to roast up that chocolatey, gooey goodness.

Finally, if you’re looking to rest your legs for the next day (or just simply a fan of a bit more horsepower), then the Evening Wiener Roast snowmobile tour is the way to go. Fire up your machine and watch the snowy trees flash by, before warming up with a campfire cookout next to McGillivray Lake.

So, the next time you’re in Sun Peaks don’t let the call of “last chair” hold you back. Get out there and make the most of your mountain time!
