The countdown is on for another incredible winter in Sun Peaks, British Columbia!

As we gear up for the 2025–26 ski and snowboard season, we’re excited to share some of the latest updates, improvements and experiences waiting for you on and off the slopes.

Major Resort Enhancements

$5.5 Million Investment in Snowmaking Continues

As shared last season, we’re continuing to add resiliency to our winter season! Sun Peaks Resort is investing $5.5 million in snowmaking upgrades which will: support the early November opening of the Nancy Greene International Race Centre, help to ensure our mid-November public opening, and provide in-season fill-in as required. A six-year project that began in 2024, picture a growing fleet of high-tech snow guns, new on-mountain coverage areas, upgraded infrastructure, and smart automation for added efficiency (weather stations on the guns themselves!). At present, Sun Peaks operates 36 snow guns, including 19 fan guns on OSV run alone, running 30 million gallons of water through the system annually.

Trail & Grooming Enhancements

Our operations teams have been busy with several key on-mountain projects to improve winter trails.

Highlights include:

  • A $1.2 million investment for the new McGillivray Ski-Back trail and skier bridge crossing. This new trail will lead skiers to the far East end of the village, including the new Switchback Creek townhomes.
  • Widening a narrow section of Upper 5 Mile, located between Rice Bowl and Last Chance.
  • Addition of a new Orient Ski Back trail, leading skiers to new developments in the far East end of the village.
  • Widening a section of Rambler, from East Village Ski Way to Peak-a-Boo.
  • Glade improvements from Carpe Diem through the far end of the Orient pod (part of our forest health and fuel treatment tree removal program) and brush cutting on Tumble Dry on Mt. Morrisey.
  • Widening Lower Chute to create an additional early season race training lane in conjunction with the Nancy Greene International Race Centre.
  • Widening a section of Blue Grouse in our Nordic trail network, to improve trail conditions and snow quality.
  • Plus, two energy-efficient snowcats join the fleet, part of our annual fleet rollover program.
Steel is going up on the new McGillivray Ski-Back bridge, a $1.2 million project linking the upper mountain to the East Village.

Forest health and fuel treatment tree removal, including clearing glades in the Orient area.

Storing Snow Over the Summer

Sun Peaks is the first resort in Canada to adopt cutting-edge Finnish snow storage technology, keeping a massive pile of snow protected through the summer. How? Giant insulated mats (18 of them!) with built-in monitoring are protecting 14,000 m³ of snow until late fall. With a retention rate of 75-85%, this snow will be spread over the lower half of OSV to kickstart early-season training at the Nancy Greene International Race Centre, where hundreds of athletes train each year to gain their competitive edge. The snowmaking water saved will move to other critical areas, such as 5 Mile, Terrain Park and Beginner Area.
