With the 10 cm of new snow received today, the remainder of the Crystal Bowl area is scheduled to open on Saturday, December 6. The Burfield Chairlift is also scheduled to open. This will bring the number of operating lifts to nine and the number of open alpine ski trails to 52.
We recommend sticking to Burfield Mid-Station and Crystal to access the available alpine terrain, however the Burfield Chairlift will also load from the bottom for use by guests and residents in the western end of the valley. Ski access back to the bottom of the Burfield chairlift is not available. We encourage the use of the In-Resort Shuttle from the Village Day Lodge back to the lower Burfield area as an alternative at this time.
Early season conditions are present on the mountain. We kindly ask guests to make responsible choices and observe all terrain closures, currently in place for everyone's safety, including our on-mountain teams.
Early-season conditions remain in effect across all Nordic (cross-country) ski trails. We ask guests to make good choices and to respect all trail closures for their safety and the safety of our Mountain Operations team. For the latest updates, please visit Nordic trail maps and status page.

Our grooming team has been working tirelessly this week, track-packing fresh snow across the mountain, and we’re thrilled to share that more terrain and chairlifts will be open for you to enjoy as of Friday, December 5!
Crystal Chair and West Bowl Express will be up and running. Most West Bowl terrain will be accessible, as well as limited runs off Top of the World and Crystal. 5 Mile and Spillway will be available from Top of the World. We’re also excited that Gils will be opening, too! All new terrain is subject to change based on ongoing assessment by our operations team.
The family-friendly Learning Zone (located next to The Annex) is now operational, making it the perfect time to get those first turns in. A large network of Nordic (Cross Country) trails is available for skate skiing only as of Friday, we are still waiting to set the tracks.
This new terrain is in addition to the runs already accessible: 5 Mile and Cahilty, the Village Platter runs (Sunbeam, Moonbeam, Gentle Giant, Cowabunga), and the Base Camp Terrain Park.
Morrisey, Sundance, Orient, and Burfield Chairlifts remain closed for the time being. For complete, up-to-the-minute details on individual trail status, please stay tuned to our Lift and Trail Status page.
While we are happy to see the available terrain expand, please remember that early-season conditions persist. Always ski and ride with caution, respect all signage, and never cross ropes or enter closed areas. This is essential for your safety and the safety of our mountain teams.
As of Saturday, alpine lift tickets will be available from 40% off, from our online store.
Be sure to check out First Fridays this week, as live music takes over the Village Platter from 7:00pm to 9:00pm!

Now a few days into our ski and snowboard season, we thank our guests who joined us over the past few days to get out on snow and enjoy those first laps of the winter. Everyone was making the most of what we did have on offer, including our Season Opening Celebrations at Masa’s Bar + Grill. Check out our video recap here: Facebook or Instagram.
We continue to offer alpine lift tickets at 50% off through Friday, December 5.
Over the weekend, thanks to the impressive work of our grooming team, snow making team, and others, we were able to open Sunbeam run and the Base Camp terrain park, both accessible from the Village Platter and Village Carpets. We expect Cowabunga (off the Village Platter) and the Learning Zone and Learning Platter (next to The Annex) to come online soon. For up-to-date lift and trail status, click here.
Our Nordic trail network remains closed; with the next good snowfall or two we should be able to get the groomer out there to start packing.
Snowmaking efforts are now focused on Sundance run, and will eventually move into the other zone of the terrain park and Powder Ventures Snow Cross Course.
Forecast for this week is calling for some decent snowfall. As the snow comes our teams will continue to assess the upper elevations on Tod Mountain. Keep those snow dances going!

Thanks to a tremendous effort by our snowmaking team and others, Sun Peaks Resort will open for the 2025-26 winter season on Thursday, November 27. We’re excited to kick off another season here in the mountains and welcome you back to celebrate winter with us during our Opening Weekend celebrations – details below.
Now the reality is, the weather has not been overly cooperative as of late, with milder than average temperatures and low snowfall throughout most areas of Western Canada. This means that we are opening with limited terrain for alpine skiing and riding and hope to open the Nordic trail network soon as well. With temperatures forecast to stay below our threshold of -2.5C for good snowmaking, our snowmaking system will continue pumping out the white stuff and we know that Mother Nature should show up in full force real soon!
For Opening Day on Thursday, Sunburst Express and Elevation chairlifts will be operating from 9:00am to the public, providing access to Cahilty and 5 Mile runs. There will be some Learning Area access at the base area, details of which will be added to this update when confirmed. We’ll be offering cinnamon buns to our morning guests and celebrating the very first chairs of the season.
For Opening Weekend Celebrations on Saturday, November 29, our favourite annual events are back, including cinnamon buns and Harry Bear in the morning, Après & Ales at Masa’s Bar + Grill (3:00pm-6:00pm), plus the Teton Gravity Movie Premiere of Pressure Drop at 7:00pm at Masa’s.
OSV and Lower Chute runs are open only to race training athletes at this time, who have rented lanes for early season training. We thank them for choosing Sun Peaks as their training venue this season!
The snow surface is primarily from our snow making system and the base is not deep, so please expect early season conditions across all open areas. All other terrain and trails are closed to public at this time. It’s imperative to follow closures and do not venture across ropes or onto closed trails. This is for your safety and the safety of our teams.
Alpine lift tickets will be available at 50% off for our first few days of operations and pricing will be evaluated as we go. Guests who pre-purchased lift tickets between November 27 and 30 will receive an automatic refund for the difference from our Guest Services team.
We expect additional trails to open in the days to come. To stay updated on trail and terrain status, sign-up for our Daily Snow Report email, delivered each morning right to your Inbox.

Winter is ALMOST here! While Mother Nature has delivered, she seems to be on a short break at the moment. We’re patiently waiting for her to return and have had to reschedule Opening Day to Thursday, November 27, weather dependent.
Recent mild conditions have also meant that our snowmaking operations have been on a temporary pause, but the team is ready to kick back into action when the cooler temperatures arrive, which is forecasted for early next week. Long range weather forecasts are calling for a strong snow season in higher altitudes of the Northern hemisphere, including a weak La Niña. With a combination of natural and human-made snow, we’re staying positive about being back on the slopes for the winter 2025-26 season next week!
It's too early to say what terrain we will open with, an assessment will be made early next week and updates provided via this page, our Facebook and Instagram channels, and e-newsletter.
Guests who pre-purchased tickets, rentals or lessons for November 22 to 26 will receive an automatic full refund. For accommodation bookings, guests are encouraged to contact the property they booked with directly.
